We are seeking a highly skilled Insurance Business Development Manager to join our team at Mirna Butler Recruitment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of risk selection, underwriting principles, and risk management throughout the lifespan of all policies and brokers in their designated area.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of insurance experience with management experience, as well as excellent people and interpersonal skills. They will be fluent in Afrikaans and English and have the ability to work under pressure.

The duties of this role will include underwriting profitability, new business growth, renewal growth, and ensuring that all aspects of administration are adhered to and enforced. The successful candidate will also be responsible for implementing the company quality control policy and ensuring that errors are limited to a minimum.

We are looking for a motivated and goal-driven individual who is able to work independently and without constant supervision. The successful candidate will have a high level of knowledge, experience, and practical aptitude in marketing, underwriting, claims, premium control, and general office administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting Profitability: Maintain a high standard of risk selection, underwriting principles, and risk management throughout the lifespan of all policies and brokers in your designated area.
  • New Business Growth: Use a professional quote template, maintain a system of quotation record keeping, and apply experience in development and achievement of new business goals.
  • Renewal Growth: Ensure that a practical renewal system is in place and that the renewal program for business under your control is done efficiently and in line with annual goals.
  • Ensure that all aspects of administration are adhered to and enforced regarding all facets of business and staff administration.
  • Implement the company quality control policy and ensure that errors are limited to a minimum.
  • Ensure that good communication and transparent relationships with Head Office are in place and ongoing.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the Agricultural Insurance Market in the area of responsibility to keep abreast of changing environment.
  • Responsible for keeping within the set expense budget for the area of operation.
  • Maintain and develop IT systems knowledge, including Grail operating system, Excel, Word, and other Microsoft programs as required.
  • Ensure understanding of Area and Company Financial aspects when setting up and executing annual and monthly plans and budgets.
  • Maintain and develop the business Broker network in the designated area according to the prescribed Broker management plan.
  • Responsible to work independently and without constant supervision towards achieving set goals.
  • Travel extensively and maintain operational abilities as part of the job description.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge, experience, and practical aptitude in marketing, underwriting, claims, premium control, and general office administration.
  • Maintain good relationships with brokers and staff and keep high levels of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Provide efficient service to brokers in all aspects of our business.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of insurance experience with management experience.
  • Excellent people and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
  • Motivated and goal-driven.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience in interacting with brokers and clients.
  • Excellent reporting skills and the ability to identify and address risk areas.
