ENERGY PRINCIPAL TECHNICIAN - Pilot Cable Faults

**Requirements**:

- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- ECSA-registered Professional Engineering Technician or eligible

for registration.
- At least 5 to 8 years post qualification relevant experience in

LV/pilot cable fault finding, maintenance and repairs.
- Computer literate and proficient on related SAP modules.
- Driver's license: Code B or EB.

Key Performance Areas
- Conducting regular condition based maintenance tests,

including continuity and insulation testing on pilot cables and

junction boxes to assess operating functionality and safety.
- Maintaining of pilot cable terminations and pilot cable

numbering systems including the checking of connecting

blocks/terminals, lugs and the harnessing of pilot cores.

obtained from test instruments to establish the types of faults

that can occur on pilot cables, such as open circuit faults, high

resistance faults, short circuit faults and earth faults.
- Conducting advanced fault location tests such as Murray loop

tests, time domain reflective tests and surge generator tests

to locate the actual location of faults on pilot cables.
- Conducting final continuity and insulation tests on repaired pilot

cables.
- Evaluating new technologies and motivating for the procurement

of new test equipment.
- Conducts regular site visits to ensure that pilot cable repairs are

done in accordance with guidelines and specifications, and that

all safety plans are in place.
- Interacting with Stores and checking allocated components and

materials against job cards prior to commencing with the job or

handing the materials for use by contractor jointing staff.
- Completing stores orders for materials and tool requirements by

processing requisitions via the SAP system.
- Reading, interpretation and updating of schematic drawings of

pilot routes, pilot joints and pilot junction boxes and coordinates

drawing updates with the drawing office.
