Duties/Pligte

The incumbent will be responsible for:

- Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Afrikaans Home Language teaching (specialisation in literature), with both primary and high school focus;
- Engaging in research in Afrikaans Home Language teaching and related fields;
- Publishing research in reputable academic and peer-reviewed journals;
- Supervising postgraduate students in Afrikaans Home Language teaching and related fields;
- Participating in social impact projects in Afrikaans Home Language teaching, and rendering appropriate services to the University and teaching community;
- Contributing to academic administration and leadership in the discipline, Department and Faculty.

- Die onderrig van Afrikaans Huistaalonderrig (spesialisasie in letterkunde) aan voor
- en nagraadse studente met laer
- en hoërskoolfokus;
- Navorsing in Afrikaans Huistaalonderrig en verwante vakgebiede;
- Die publikasie van navorsing in hoogstaande akademiese en eweknie-beoordeelde vaktydskrifte;
- Studieleiding van nagraadse studente in Afrikaans Huistaalonderrig en verwante vakgebiede;
- Deelname aan maatskaplike-impakprojekte in Afrikaans Huistaalonderrig en lewer toepaslike dienste aan die Universiteit en die onderriggemeenskap;
- Dra by tot akademiese administrasie en leierskap in die vakgebied, Departement en Fakulteit.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- A relevant South African qualification to teach Afrikaans;
- Afrikaans literature and / or Applied Afrikaans Language Studies at third year university level or equivalent qualification;
- Excellent spoken and written language proficiency in Afrikaans;
- Appropriate teaching experience;
- Knowledge of Afrikaans language education in the intermediate, senior and FET phases within the CAPS education policy;
- Appropriate school teaching experience;
- The ability to teach and assess in Afrikaans;
- A good working knowledge of a second official South African language.
- ** Senior Lecturer**: A relevant PhD with literature and / or (Applied) Linguistics as core element. Experience of teaching Afrikaans in higher education context. Experience of postgraduate supervision at postgraduate level in language education. Research and publication in chosen areas of specialisation, and relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- ** Lecturer**: A relevant master's degree with literature or (Applied) Linguistics as core element. Approved publishing schedule. Demonstrable ability of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals. The ability to supervise and co-supervise postgraduate students.
- 'n Toepaslike Suid-Afrikaanse onderwyskwalifikasie vir die onderrig van Afrikaans;
- Afrikaanse letterkunde of Toegepaste Afrikaanse Taalkunde tot op derdejaar universiteitsvlak, of gelykwaardige kwalifikasie;
- Uitstekende mondelinge en skriftelike taalvaardigheid in Afrikaans;
- Toepaslike onderrig ervaring;
- Kennis van Afrikaans-onderrig in die intermediêre, senior en VOO-fase binne die raamwerk van die KABV-kurrikulum;
- Toepaslike skoolonderrig ervaring;
- Die vermoë om in Afrikaans klas te gee en te assesseer;
- 'n Werkende kennis van 'n tweede amptelike Suid-Afrikaanse taal.
- ** Senior Lektoraat**: 'n Toepaslike PhD met Afrikaans letterkunde en / of (Toegepaste) Taalkunde as kerneienskap. Onderrigervaring van Afrikaans in hoër onderwys verband. Ervaring van nagraadse studieleiding of as mede-studieleier van nagraadse studente in taalonderrig. Navorsing en publikasie in gekose areas van spesialisasie, en toepaslike publikasies in eweknie-beoordeelde vaktydskrifte.
- ** Lektoraat**: 'n Toepaslike meestersgraad met Afrikaanse letterkunde of (Toegepaste) Taalkunde as kerneienskap. Goedgekeurde publikasie schedule. Bewese navorsingsvermoë en publikasie in geakkrediteerde eweknie-beoordeelde vaktydskrifte. Die vermoë om as studieleier of mede-studieleier vir nagraadse studente op te tree.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- A PhD or proof of registration or proposal for PhD (if not in possession of PhD yet) on lecturer level position;
- Experience in and or knowledge of Applied Linguistics or Applied Afrikaans Language Studies;
- Deep-seated interest in and knowledge of current South African education policies;
- Experience and / or knowledge of technology-aided language education and a basic knowledge of a second additional official South African language.
