**Duties and responsibilities**
- Performing routine legal/ IP functions under mínimal supervision
- Preparing and drafting of correspondence including responses to client enquiries, routine correspondence, accounting enquiries in accordance with client standing instructions
- Attending to report and prepare responses to substantive office actions
- Attending to amendments and ancillary correspondence with clients on patent and design matters
- Dealing with incoming correspondence /enquiries
- Ability to analyze patent and design laws of foreign jurisdictions and be capable of providing practixcal and legally sound advice
- Assisting with cost estimates, tender responses, tariffs and other marketing activities of the Firm
- Assisting with recordals in African countries i.e. changes of name, assignments etc.
- Dealing with urgent matters and client specific requests
- Reviewing and responding to incoming correspondence
- Reviewing local legislation to determine answers to specific problems and also as part of specific projects i.e. writing book chapters and articles for publications
- Preparing affidavits and reports of a general nature
- Running a diary
- Marketing the firm’s practice areas including giving presentations internally and externally

**Skills and knowledge**
- Must have a legal & patent background (3-5 years post qualification experience)
- Must not be ready to embark on a steep learning curve
- Must be able to work under pressure with high work volumes
- Must be able to write legally sound letters of a high quality
- Ability to think critically and logically but provide practical advice
- Ability to work in a highly professional manner with little supervision / management (partial remote working is a possibility in due course)
- Possibility of travel within Africa therefore must have a valid passport and be able to travel
- Ability to speak or understand French, Portuguese or Arabic would be a distinct advantage

**Qualification/s**
- Matric
- Technical / Engineering Degree
- Tertiary / legal qualification
- 3-5 years of experience in the IP field
