PURPOSE We are looking to appoint a Quality Group Leader in the Quality Engineering Department. You will report to the Quality Engineer. You will fulfil the necessary requirements within the Department to meet the Company’s objectives by ensuring that operations are performing optimally from a quality, cost, and delivery perspective, using the right tools, materials, and processes. An important part of the job involves designing the company's quality standards and testing processes against those criteria.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Strategy formulation and implementation:

- Ensure that the quality department is run on sound commercial, ethical, and professional principles, and activities and behaviour of all staff members’ supports achievement of the company strategy, vision, mission and objectives.
- Maintaining of standards with respect to critical, functional, and cosmetic requirements. Customer expectations must be met with respect to critical, functional, and cosmetic standards.
- The department members must be competent in understanding these requirements and auditing boats effectively and ensuring that the standards are met.

Environment, health and safety:

- The function must operate in accordance with any health, safety and environmental legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.

**People management**:

- Provide leadership to Quality Inspectors under your control, coach and develop and manage a high performance team that delivers on its objectives.
- Strong communication between Quality Inspectors under your leadership as well as with other interfacing department members.
- Facilitate improvement ideas and support the implementation to improve the overall performance and efficiency of the department.
- Complete regular performance reviews and resolve disciplinary issues in accordance with company policies.
- Implement succession planning in your department

Operational activities:

- Control the quality of boats through providing an inspection safety net to Manufacturing.
- Ensure quality inspections are conducted out on all relevant areas as applicable (Mould Shop, Assembly, Stores) and that defects are communicated to production and other relevant departments for rectification.
- Control the quality (signing off and labelling) of parts and components where and as necessary. Control non conforming product by labelling and quarantining as necessary.
- Conduct on-and-off site vendor inspections when and as necessary. - Provide knowledge and training to Manufacturing with regards to the required quality standards.
- Develop boat and component quality standards in the form of boundary samples. - Compile inspection reports for further action.
- Report on boat and delivery status on a regular basis.
- Conduct and participate in problem solving and corrective action activities e.g., Workstation and Line QRCI (4D’s and 8D’s).
- Make judgements regarding the acceptability against the Quality Standard.

Continuous improvement:

- Facilitate change in driving improvement in quality expectations and understanding.
- Support the change of the mindset in manufacturing and understanding the responsibility for quality belongs to everybody.
- Facilitate the change from inspection (reactive) to auditing (prevention).

Stakeholders’ liaisons:

- Facilitate defect reduction programs by compiling, distributing failure information from various sources, and conducting meetings to distribute, follow-up and track defect reduction activities.
- Work collaboratively with Manufacturing to determine, prioritise and action defect reduction activities.
- Communicate and negotiate with the client W.R.T. the level of quality & make judgements when and as required

Ad hoc:

- Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required. - Provide support to the other factories and to the harbour when required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum Qualification: NQF Level 4 Qualification
- Ideal Qualification: Engineering Diploma (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics)
- A minimum of 2 years Quality experience in a manufacturing environment’
- Own transport and valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABITILIES REQUIRED:

- Quality drive with attention to detail
- Self-motivated and ability to work in a group (good facilitator)
- High level of analytical ability and a skilled problem solver
- Core Skills knowledge (SPC, MSA, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans) will be an added advantage.
- Be flexible, adaptable, able, and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever-changing business environment.
- Willingness to travel between sites
