You will be responsible for the planning, coordinating, installation of masts according to a schedule and timeline provided by the organisation. Ensuring that the installation is done according to company standards and quality checked before signing off on the installation of the mast. Ensuring that the workspace in which the team works is safe, neat and that staff is trained in accordance to the Health & Safety rules set out by the organisation. Assisting stores with stock take of the mast equipment.

**KEY JOB FUNCTIONS**:
**Preparation for mast installation**
- Check manufacturing file.
- Ensure that relevant stock is available.
- Request masts from stores along with rope packs and parts.
- Place an order with stores if stock is not available.
- Ensure that all components are available for the building of the mast.
- Delegate to staff members who is responsible for which component of the installation.
- Ensure transport is arranged for the day the mast installation should take place.
- Ensure mast stepping is communicated with RCYC day before launch as some vessels launch at MPT.

**Building of Mast**
- Preparation of work area aligned to health and safety standards for mast building to commence.
- Compilation of the mast which includes the following deliverables:

- Joining the mast.
- Building the mast.
- Fitting pulling and connecting electrics.
- Loading the boom and furler.
- Ensuring build check list for mast build is completed and filed.
- Loading of mast onto trailer prepping for launch and checks completed to ensure all is secure.

**Commissioning of Mast**
- Stepping of mast, weather conditions to be observed for the safety of the staff prior to stepping or un-stepping.
- Checklist of stepping completion to be completed.
- Rig tensions as specified in comms file to be written in before leaving the vessel.
- Wait for boat to launch before mast hoisting can begin.
- Prepare the boat for fitting and rigging
- Check functionality and working order of crane and lifting equipment
- Hoist/install the mast by using a mobile crane.

**Health & Safety Compliant**
- Prepare health and safety file and ensure it is accurate and up to date.
- Ensure staff understand health and safety regulations.
- Ensure that staff understand how to operate equipment correctly (specifically lifting equipment).
- Ensure that staff wear appropriate clothing and is PPE compliant.

**People Management**
- Lead, manage and coach team members.
- Ensure that on the job training and feedback takes place when needed.
- Take action in case of staff discipline and problems arising through staff grievances in accordance with Robertson & Caine disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Ensure staff grooming and uniform standards are adhered to by all.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- NQF Level 4 qualification (Matric).
- Rigging and or Mechanics Trade Certificate.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Mast and Rigger or related field.
- Basic knowledge in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

**COMPETENCIES**:

- Have in-depth knowledge of building and installation of masts. principles, practices and procedures.
- Must have the ability to act professional at all times and be a trusted business advisor.
- The ability to compile and complete reports as requested.
- Must have the ability to resolve conflict/solve problems in an amicable manner.
- Sound understanding and ability pertaining to organisation policy.
- Must be detailed conscious and conscientious in task execution.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.
- Be flexible, adaptable, able and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever-changing business environment.
- Ability to take full responsibility and accountability as per the scope of work.
