Facilitator for Semi-verbal Neurodiverse Child

**Main Purpose of the job**:
To offer personalised daily guidance and support, ensuring he receives tailored learning opportunities that caters to his specific and unique needs. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure, long-term source of support are of the utmost importance.
**General Requirements**:
- A valid driver’s license, driving experience and a clean driving record
- Essential.
- Basic Afrikaans language skills - Essential.
- Computer fluency - Essential.
**Job Objectives**:
- Becoming a core member of the multi-disciplinary team to support his individual needs if and when needed.
- Providing companionship and emotional support for him at home.
- Support and scaffolding for his regulation needs (lessening any uncertainty and anxiety).
- To carry out duties such as facilitating school and learning activities and taking him on outings and to appointments.
- Supporting the understanding of his individual difference sensory profile, and executive functioning (i.e. assisting with creating a routine with the use of visual aids).
- Facilitating and planning creative educational activities using a child-led approach.
**Job-Related work experience**:
- Previous experience in a role supporting neurodivergent children - Essential.
- Previous experience in teaching - Essential.
- Familiarity with special education strategies, curriculum adaptation, and life skills training.
**Job-Related Knowledge**:
- Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential.
- Familiarity with low arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.
- Knowledge of alternative communication tools and experience in supporting non-verbal or semi-verbal communication. Patience, empathy, and a commitment to building a trusting, supportive relationship with the child.
- Ability to lead in both structured and unstructured learning environments, balancing academic and life skill teaching.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the family and other support systems.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to the child’s needs and family’s schedule.
- Familiarity and knowledge of DIR Floortime - Desirable.
- Relevant certifications or qualifications in education, special education, psychology, or related fields - Desirable.
**Job-Related Skills**:
- Able to assist with planning and implementing educational activities with him using a creative and flexible approach to teaching and learning according to his learning abilities - Essential.
- Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for both children by utilising a low arousal approach - Essential.
