Governess/Au pair for a 3-year-old neurodivergent boy - Stellenbosch area

We are seeking an individual who is dedicated to supporting young neurodivergent children. We require someone highly organised with exceptional executive functioning skills. Your role will involve nurturing a young boy through his early intervention journey. This bright child possesses a love for creativity, including drawing, music, and dancing.

To be a “helping hand” for his unique and specific challenge and support needs, giving him the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and to be a secure, long-term source of support is of the utmost importance.
- Becoming a core member of the multi-disciplinary team handling intervention around the child - following the S.P.E.L.L principles i.e. implementing structure and routine.
- To collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support his individual development needs.
- Providing companionship, arranging stimulating and educational games and activities, playing indoors and outdoors with him.
- Support and scaffolding for his regulation needs (lessening any uncertainty and anxiety).
- Changing nappies when required, as well as assisting with potty training.
- Supporting the understanding of his individual difference sensory profile, and executive functioning (i.e assisting with creating a routine and structure with the use of visual aids).
- Support in contextualising social interactions e.g using social stories, as well as facilitating dialogue and using clear, concise communication.
- Cooking/preparing meals for the child and the family (ensuring the meals are tailored to his sensory needs).
- Household management: Ordering groceries, scheduling any appointments needed for the house, family, or pets, managing the house staff.
- Travelling with the family and act as support for the 3 year old.

Support and training from a multi-disciplinary team knowledgeable in the field of Neurodiversity.

Opportunity for the position to change into becoming a facilitator at school.

A valid driver’s license and reliable car - Essential.

Fluent in English - Essential.

Being fun and relaxed with a non-demanding approach to create a comfortable environment for the child - Essential.

Detail orientated with the ability to manage: Child Education, Child Development, Child Care, General Housekeeping, Cooking - Essential.

Honest and Trustworthy individual with a pro-active mind set - Essential.

Qualification in early childhood development - Essential.

Previous experience in a role supporting young neurodivergent children - Essential.

Previous experience in an au pairing/governess type role - Essential.

Familiarity with a low arousal, child led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.

Knowledge and understanding of the unique support needs of a neurodivergent individual - Essential.

Strong verbal communication skills - Essential.

Strong executive functioning skills, i.e., ability to implement structure - Essential.

Social, play and life skills - Essential.

Relationship building skills - Essential.

Monday - Thursday: 07:00-17:00.

Friday: 07:00 - 15:00.
