**Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Communication Studies.**

A Lecturer /Senior lecturer vacancy exists for suitably qualified and experienced

individuals in the Programme of Communication Studies: Department of

Communication, Media and Information Studies, in the School of Languages and

undergraduate teaching and postgraduate (Honours and Masters) teaching and

research supervision. The individual will be part of a dynamic team in the Programme

of Communication Studies.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- **A Master’s Degree in** **Communication Studies or equivalent** (specialised

areas of Communication such as Public Relations, Organisational
Communication) for a Lecturer OR PhD in Communication Studies or

equivalent (specialised areas of Communication such as Public Relations,

Organisational Communication) for a Senior Lecturer.
- Studying towards a PhD in Communication Studies will be an added advantage

for a lecturer.
- A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience of Communication Courses at

undergraduate and postgraduate levels at a University OR a minimum of three

(3) years teaching experience of Communication Courses at undergraduate

and postgraduate levels at a University, for a senior lecturer.
- Publication track record in DHET-accredited journals (at least one publication

for a Lecturer OR three publications for a Senior Lecturer).

**DUTIES**:
**The incumbent will be responsible for the following**:

- **Teaching and Learning**: Full involvement in all courses, design and

curriculum development, updating material in respect of national and
international trends, evaluation of lectures and course material, maintaining

discussion class programmes, identifying at-risk students and facilitating

additional assistance, undertaking discipline-related research**.**
- **Research**: Supervising honours and Masters Students, managing involvement

in research processes, overseeing and participating in project teams working
on research projects, participating in conferences, and producing published

articles/books/chapters in books (measurable research outputs).
- **Academic Citizenship**:Involvement in community engagement, success in

the implementation of projects, and**taking an active role in professional**
organisations.
- **Governance**:Organise course files, deliver on deadlines, record all academic

activities, and participate in Departmental, School, and Faculty committees.
