The Buskaid Trust is a charitable trust registered in both South Africa and the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1992 by British viola player Rosemary Nalden, in response to a BBC radio interview highlighting the difficulties of a group of young string players in Diepkloof, Soweto. Twenty five years later, this extraordinary organization is not only still in existence, but now a flourishing hive of creative activity, and a vital source of income for the young people it employs from the local community
as teachers, performers, administrators, and instrument repairers.

The administrative hub of the Buskaid Trust is based in Parktown North, and Buskaid is now urgently in need of an

OPERATIONS ASSISTANT

to help drive this organisation forward into the next 25 years

We are currently recruiting for an efficient, passionate Operations Assistant, who will bring a high level of initiative and a strong desire to keep on developing in this role: this is the perfect position for a curious and innovative mind Your track record will demonstrate your exceptional ability to communicate, through excellent verbal and written skills. Keen attention to detail is essential, and your attitude and commitment to the role must match the high standards which Buskaid demands of all its young beneficiaries and employees.

Buskaid’s offices are based in Parktown North, but occasional visits to the Music School in Diepkloof, Soweto may be required.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Day-to-day administration
- Management of all paperwork including office admin, trustee registrations & policy documents and financial management
- Maintaining financial records
- Purchasing of office supplies
- Maintaining up-to-date certificates, leases, insurances etc
- Organising of maintenance and repairs
- Facilitating all supplier payments and following up on unpaid invoices
- Supervision of cleaning staff and other temporary employees
- Managing Petty Cash
- Ensuring all filing and record-keeping is up-to-date and well organised, including providing support to the Bookkeeper
- Maintenance of the asset register
- Performing other general office duties and running errands
- Office and property lockup
- PA duties to the Director when required

Human Resources
- Overseeing the collection and maintenance of records on staff, teachers and learners
- Implementing the human resources policies, procedures and practices of the organisation
- Ensuring that personnel files are updated and kept confidential
- Collating monthly data for payroll

Performance, Events and Workshop management
- Marketing and advertising of concerts and events
- All pre-concert preparations such as booking venues, organising advertising, preparing complimentary tickets, and VIP events
- Organising logistics for workshops, gigs and corporate performances
- Liaising directly with clients/sponsors to ensure the smooth running of all events
- Set up and management of ticketing e.g., Quicket/Computicket
- Hosting VIP guests at performances
- Occasional after-hour support at concerts

**The Operations Assistant must meet the following criteria**:

- Business Studies, Management, Social Administration or other relevant tertiary academic qualification
- Minimum of five years Office Administration experience
- MS Office capability - Intermediate Excel (writing formulas, creating pivot tables, sorting and graphing data)
- Intermediate Word (mail merge, formatting)
- Client / customer relationship management
- Database management
- Charity sector experience highly desirable
- Driver’s license and own car essential
