RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

- Lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate level on the Hatfield, Groenkloof and/or Mamelodi Campuses including but not limited to modules related to Mathematics of Finance and Financial Engineering:

- Conducting research in Mathematics of Finance that leads to publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals;
- Supervising postgraduate students;
- Participating in departmental administration;
- Participating in community engagement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
**Lecturer**:

- An MSc degree, or equivalent, in any field of the Mathematical Sciences with content related to Mathematics of Finance, which provides adequate expertise for teaching undergraduate and Honours modules in Mathematics of Finance and Financial Engineering (The undergraduate and Honours transcripts will be reviewed);
- The MSc degree should provide a pathway for admission to PhD studies (If the incumbent does not have a PhD, they are expected to make and agree with the Head of Department on a development plan leading to earning a PhD within the first 5 years of employment. Registration for PhD and appropriate progress in the PhD research should be demonstrated in the first two years of the appointment);
- Evidence of potential to conduct research in the general field of Mathematics of Finance;
- Some teaching experience in a tertiary environment.

**Senior Lecturer**:

- A PhD degree, or equivalent, in any field of the Mathematical Sciences with content related to Mathematics of Finance, which provides adequate expertise for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules as well as supervise postgraduate students in Mathematics of Finance and Financial Engineering (The transcripts of all degrees will be reviewed);
- Some teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels;
- Potential to be established as an independent researcher in the near future based on a recent body of work**.**

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
**Lecturer**:

- A PhD degree, or equivalent, in any field of the Mathematical Sciences with content related to Mathematics of Finance, which provides adequate expertise for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules as well as supervise postgraduate students in Mathematics of Finance and Financial Engineering;
- Research experience based on a recent body of work beyond the PhD thesis;
- Substantial teaching experience in a tertiary environment.

**Senior Lecturer**:

- Evidence of excellence in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels;
- Experience in the supervision of postgraduate students;
- Established as an independent researcher based on a recent body of work.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
