ur client in the logistics space is looking for a Port Assistant (Transport Admin Clerk) to join their team

**Responsibilities**:

- Enquire on extensions with TPT and the Shipping Lines for extra free days both in the Terminal and into Empty Depot
- Update the WMS (FMS) system all day with updated information as and when received.
- Monitor all containers coming into the facility to confirm empty days are correct and updated.
- Verify all queried days with the shipping lines.
- Alert the Port Team about any changes to last free days and any out-of-the-ordinary shipments - eg:

- HAZ / Lesser days have been applied for before and after upliftment
- Ensure empty depots are correctly pre-arranged. Enquire on unknown depots per shipment and keep the system updated accordingly.
- Process administrative functions in the Port Operational Team - including scheduling certain shipments for the container in and out of the facility and also monitoring export shipments separately.
- Filing for Port Truck Department.
- Confirm units are turned in to the correct depots by processing empty POD’s into the system accordingly and double checking the information on the POD’s. Cross-checking POD to FMS.
- Arrange alternate empty depot requirements as and when necessary.
- Call for empty turn-in POD’s from other haulier service providers.
- Lodge discrepancies and repudiations of claims with shipping lines.
- Monitoring and scheduling all claims/queries within the department's Demurrage / Claims tracking schedule and carrying through the querying thereof right up until resolution.
- Compile data packs with relevant information for Management sign-off as and when claims or demurrages are validly incurred by the Team.
- Assisting the Controllers to verify and locate details from Shipping Lines or agents for unknown units located on the Bulk Check listing.

**Key Skills**:

- Excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal) is essential,
- The ability to multi-task and work under pressure,
- The ability to follow specific instructions and guidelines and follow processes and procedures in detail with no deviations,
- Think out of the box and identify problems and take the initiative to investigate and solve queries with the assistance of your Supervisor when needed,
- The ability to work independently and prioritize workload and requirements,
- Strong ability to pay attention to detail and focus in a busy environment.

**Qualifications**:

- Matric - Grade 12
- Minimum 3 to 5 years in the logistics operation - with Transnet involvement and fleet monitoring
- Excellent understanding of Excel and Word - Especially Excel and understanding spreadsheets and compiling various spreadsheets for the department.
- Operational monitoring.
- Good understanding of a WMS system.
- Previous local haulier experience which involves a fleet operating in and out of the Durban
- Harbour (Dbn TPT)
