Venetia is an open-pit mine and the country’s largest producer of diamonds. The mine is in Limpopo Province in the north east corner of South Africa. Currently, we’re mining two of the mine’s largest Kimberlite pipes in a single, open-pit operation. Open-pit mining is likely to run to 2018-2021 and preparations are already under way to convert to underground mining, which is expected to extend the life of the mine to 2046.

**Job Description**:

- The core purpose of this role is to be responsible for translating conditions attached to permits and permit requirements into a list of actions; designating the role/function responsible for implementing each condition; and monitoring the process of implementation of conditions attached to permit.

The Permit Compliance Coordinator will ensure integration of the relevant functional disciplines in the compliance with conditions attached to the permit process. The Permit Compliance Coordinator will develop a detailed strategy to maintain permits in good standing, working with internal and external stakeholders. The Permit Compliance Coordinator will monitor compliance with the obligations and conditions attached to permits by the responsible areas.

**KEY RESULT AREAS**:
The Permit Compliance Coordinator is responsible for:

- Develop detailed strategy to maintain permits, including the process by which to identify each individual condition and requirement attached to a permit, and link it to the person responsible and to a timeframe
- Ensure compliance with permits commitments and keep permits in good standing
- Populate obligation register
- Communicate with people responsible for implementation of conditions attached to permits and follow up the compliance to the execution plan.
- Ensure the integration of Technical and other teams in the compliance process
- Keep the permitting manager informed about the results of compliance process, as well as the potential risk and mitigation measures.

**Qualifications**:

- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)
- Grade 12/Standard 10/N3
- Relevant National Diploma/Degree in Safety, Health and Environment.
- At least 3 years in similar positions in mining environment - advantageous
- Experience of mining projects
- Experience of advising on permitting issues or compliance for new project development in a relevant sector
- Track record of interfacing with and influencing colleagues at all levels and coordinating disciplines relevant to permitting.
- Successfully obtain a Medical Fitness Certificate on Venetia mine

**SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES**:
The incumbent must possess the following skills/ competencies:

- Knowledge of new project development issues and/or operational issues preferably with a strong focus on compliance
- Understanding of the technical and non-technical factors that affect compliance
- Ability to engage across all disciplines relevant to compliance with conditions attached to permits and ensure effective coordination between these disciplines
- Excellent communication skills, orderly work
- Broad familiarity with regulatory environments
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail
- Computer literate
- Fluency in English
