Group Chief Investment Officer

**Key Purpose of this Job**
The GCIO is responsible for the management of the Group Investment Portfolios. To co-create and support the
CEO in driving the investment strategy, responsible for the implementation of the investment strategy in the
Group. The GCIO will provide insight and direction, lead investment teams, lead M&A and corporate finance
activities, oversee the performance of all funds under management, and effectively maintain drive growth for the
underlying portfolio.
**Deal Making and Investment Outcomes = 40%**
- Undertaking of origination, and initial assessment of eligibility and investability of potential investments;
- Understanding key drivers (micro and macro) of potential investments;
- Scope and manage the due diligence process on potential investments, including external service providers;
- Run and structure complex deals, Balance Sheet, Private Equity and Venture Capital Transactions;
- Conduct valuations for pipeline opportunities and underlying portfolio;
- Review legal, financial and institutional arrangements for transactions;
- Financial modelling, including LBO models - to illustrate base case and target case returns;
- Assess financial viability of transactions;
- Make appropriate structuring recommendations;
- Preparing investment and or credit papers for presentation to Investment Committee;
- Articulating plausible scenarios, risks and findings in detailed investment memoranda;
- Oversee and review quarterly investment reports on portfolio companies, reflecting an in-depth understanding of the company(ies) and external market drivers;
- Managing any ESG and Impact related capacity support to portfolio companies;
- Coordinating the exit process and contributing opinion regarding timing / structure / exit type, pricing etc.;
- Review and/or develop systems and tools to simplify and scale the deal-making process;
- Supporting portfolio companies with their strategic and other business planning exercises, forecasting income, amortization schedules and other items related to our funding or investments, and assisting with the conducting of valuation exercises
- Actively participate in investment related committees;
- Actively monitor investments for delivery according to desired investment outcomes i.e. Growth,
**Sustainability, Impact, ESG, Value creation etc.;**
- Participating in debates to positively influence the Team;
- Review and process relevant legal documentation/agreements related to transactions;
- Preparing investment proposals and lead the Investment Team that motivates it to internal and external investment committees:
- Board responsibilities on Portfolio companies:
**Investment Strategy Implementation = 40%**
- Work with the EXCO on the development of Company’s investment strategy;
- Work with the in raising capital from new / existing investors;
- Market research;
- Lead fund raising initiatives across the Group of companies;
- Operationalize Investment Strategy;
- Ensure investment activities are in line with investment mandates.
**Stakeholder Relations = 10%**
- Brand ambassador for the Group;
- Marketing Company’s capabilities to potential investors and other stakeholders
- Writing and making presentations to relevant stakeholders
- Report to investors on fund activities
- Ensure accuracy and quality of investment stats and information is delivered to investors

**Knowledge and Skills**
**Formal Education**
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., BCom / Business Science / CA / Actuarial
Science / BEng / CFA) with a strong academic record;
- Post graduate degree advantageous
**Technical/ Legal Certification**
- CA/CFA holder
**Experience**
- At least 10+ years of private equity investment experience at a top Fund Manager, Investment bank and/or another comparable financial institution / team
- Strong experience leading, supervising, and motivating a team of investment professionals
