RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in those aspects encountered in the Built Environment that are taught in the degree programmes on offer in the Department;
- Developing a research programme in an appropriate area of expertise, or expanding existing research programmes;
- Publishing research articles in the foremost national/international accredited journals;
- Supervising postgraduate master’s and doctoral students within the research focus areas;
- Performing assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature);
- Participating in the Department’s community service programmes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
**Lecturer**:

- A Masters’ degree in Urban and Regional Planning; and
- Evidence of articles published, or conference papers delivered.

**Senior Lecturer**:

- A PhD in Urban and Regional Planning;
- At least 3 years’ tertiary experience or research experience in Urban and Regional Planning;
- At least 2 publications in accredited journals;
- Evidence of conference papers delivered (at least 2);
- Experience in academic administration and knowledge of departmental committees; and
- Evidence of supervision/ co - supervision of Masters students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE COMPETENCIES:
**At least two of the following**:

- Strategic and/or Municipal Development Planning;
- Land Use Management Theory and Practice;
- Policy-Making and Review; and
- Settlement Planning and Design;
- GIS for planning and settlement management.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

- Registered with SACPLAN as Professional Planner;
- Experience in teaching and learning at tertiary level.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
