**purpose**:

- The purpose of the Credit Originator Analyst role in Broader Africa is to enable, guide and support in the corporate credit origination value chain with a focus (but not exclusively) on transactions for Debt and Trade Solutions (DTS) and related/required transactions. The purpose of the Credit Origination Analyst is to provide mentorship, support and guidance to the Corporate and Investment Banking credit teams operating in the Broader Africa business. This role will be involved in all credit activities for transactions funded from both the South Africa and the various in-country balance sheets. This role provides good grounding for a potential opportunity as a Regional Credit Head with the bank.**experience and qualifications**:

- Honors level degree in Finance or Accounting or Financial Engineering
- A CA (SA), CFA or MBA qualification would be advantageous
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience should ideally include large corporate credit experience within an investment bank.
- Ability to analyse company financial statements to identify and quantify financial, credit and business risks is a must.
- An interest in and understanding of African company’s and markets
- General understanding of a variety of corporate banking products
- Experience with trade / unfunded instruments is desirable
- Experience in financial modelling**additional requirements**:
**responsibilities**:

- Facilitate, enable and support the end-to-end credit process for transactions in Broader Africa;
- Coordinating and guiding the credit workflow for new transactions, credit reviews and debt restructuring transactions and provide direct input for complex cross border and in-country deals;
- Attend in-country client meetings on potential transactions and support with the client engagement strategies and tactics;
- Perform financial modeling for transactions where this is required and support in-country teams with these skills;
- Perform training and development of the in-country analysts on all aspects of credit origination;
- Build strong relationships with credit analysts, transactors and support teams both in-country and South Africa;
- Attend all business deal screens and credit forums and give guidance at the origination stage;
- Build knowledge on, and keep up to date with, the various country risks and understand how these affect the credit;
- Develop an understanding of the transaction related risks and nuances in each country and assist with finding solutions to mitigate these;
- Perform ongoing risk management and covenant monitoring for client in responsible portfolios and participate in risk meetings;
- Perform annual and rating reviews and general maintenance of own portfolio;
- Assist the in-country analyst in managing their in-force credit portfolio, prioritizing requests, planning credit reviews, amendments to facilities etc. and where a specific credit team is under pressure in a specific country be the seconded resource to assist in country;
- Assist with country specific industry reports;
- Assist with assessing and refining Africa credit frameworks and methodologies;
- Assist with credit systems updates forming part of the credit origination process;
