On the Dot, a subsidiary of Media24, currently requires the services of a Category Manager.

We seek to appoint a dynamic and energetic individual to assume responsibility as a
**Category Manager**, reporting to the Supply Chain Manager. The two positions will be based in our offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively.
**Main Purpose of the Role**

As the expert of a specific category of magazines, your in-depth knowledge will drive the pricing, shelving, marketing and promotions of the category's products in order to make them as visible, accessible, and appealing to customers as possible. Contribute to the profitability of a retail location by increasing the volume of products that are sold within the category, and improving the speed of inventory turnover within the category. This position requires proven relationship management and multi-level communication skills to build consensus among all of these parties, even when there are disparate goals. You will act as the key interface between the customer and all relevant divisions.

- Proactively evaluate circulation process and manage forecasting efficiencies in order to maximize the profitability of the inventory flow. Balancing projected forecasts and actual sales, create trend forecasts and implement sales plans. Setting and management of distribution production schedules.
- Provide retail channel/customer expertise to publishers and product managers for new brand extensions to ensure forecasting enough demand to achieve sales targets and reduce returns. Must be analytical and go beyond the numbers to find the real insight that will be the key to growing sales with key outlets and identify marketing and new distribution opportunities.
- Utilize all available forecasting tools to provide relevant analyses, information and areas of concern to stakeholders, developing a solution driven retail strategy.
- Develop unique ways to grow sales for your category in retail and provide solutions to OtD, publishers and product managers in the face of retail challenges.
- Manage and lead retail team meetings for new brand extensions to ensure all elements for new brand extensions are communicated internally and key listing agents externally and those are executed successfully on schedule.
- Present customer shopping insights at meetings as the retail consumer expert of your titles to assist in the sell-in of the product and editors and publishers with their decision-making.
- Participate in strategy and budget sessions and feedback on weekly /monthly basis is required.
- Use the data sources available within BI to analyze sales data and product diagrams that can support Job sales and marketing proposals and decisions.
- Lead and/or participate in all Key Account Category Reviews and category management relevant to your titles.
- Manage all new item launch activities through channels by working with all stakeholders such as OtD Sales & Merchandising teams, Logistics and Product Managers and publishers.
- Craft strategic issue presentations that align publishing goals with retail strategies.
- Maintain a productive relationship with retailers that are mutually beneficial, as well as create an engaging relationship with customers that are interactive and satisfying.
- Responsible for every aspect of the in-store retailing of a group of magazines until those products are taken out the doors by a purchasing customer.
- Be completely aware of what is transpiring at retail store level for the titles you work with (have a sense of ownership of the execution of promotions in every store).
- Required to have an intimate knowledge of the magazines you are working on, their values, brand positioning, target consumers and personality.
- Ensure clear and concise communication with all retail teams in the field to execute plans successfully. Setting competitive pricing points, and adjusting the pricing to increase sales and clear out stagnant items from inventory.
- Work closely with buyers to expand successful product lines and plan and facilitate timely execution of all channel/ retail account specific promotions such as:

- Displays / POP / promotional forecasting
- Price discounts / store specific promotions / linked save promotions
- Leverage promotional synergies across channels where appropriate
- Complete post-promotion evaluations to gauge success with respect to sales, profit, ROI
- Be a channel advocate within Media24 to OtD distributors, retailers and customers. Represent OtD Sales at internal meetings to express their point of view. As an expert on your titles, be ready to explain their strategies to gain alignment on retail initiatives and ensure brand Strategy of the publishers can be executed at channel level. Be aware of potential setbacks to retail plans and develop contingencies to overcome them. Relay and resolve concerns from Retailers to find solutions on pricing
