**JOB DESCRIPTION**

The mobile crane operator / truck / bakkie driver will be responsible for operating our mobile crane to lift, move, position and place materials and equipment, as well as our truck / bakkie for operational purposes. He / her primary job will be to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our vehicles whilst following all our safety protocols and regulations.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

These include, but not limited to, the following:

- Inspection of vehicles before and after each use to ensure it is in proper working condition.
- Operating the crane controls to lift, lower and move materials and equipment according to specified instructions.
- Operating the truck / bakkie to convey materials and equipment according to specified instructions.
- Adhering to load charts and weight limits to determine the appropriate lifting capacity of our crane.
- Adhering to the prescribed legal transport regulations in order to determine the appropriate carrying capacities of our truck / bakkie.
- Rigging loads by attaching and detaching cables, hooks and other lifting devices.
- Communicating with ground crew or signalers using hand signals, two-way radios or other communication devices to ensure safe and accurate movement of materials.
- Keeping accurate records of daily activities, including maintenance and repairs performed on our vehicles.
- Following all safety procedures and best practices to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of personnel and property.
- Reporting any mechanical issues or malfunctions of our vehicles to the appropriate manager, supervisor or maintenance personnel.
- Participating in regular training and professional development activities to stay updated on new equipment, techniques and safety protocols.
- Adhering to all local regulations related to our vehicles’ operations, including obtaining any required licences or certifications.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED**:
These include, but not limited to, the following:
Ø Valid crane driver's licence: A mobile crane driver must possess a valid driver's licence to operate our crane and transport it to different job sites, if necessary.

Ø Valid truck / bakkie driver's licence: A truck / bakkie driver must possess a valid driver’s licence and an operator’s permit (PDP) to operate our vehicles.

Ø Crane operator certification: A mobile crane operator must possess the required licence or certification that demonstrates their knowledge and skills in operating cranes safely.

Ø Physical fitness: Crane operators / truck / bakkie driver’s must be physically fit and have good hand-eye coordination to operate the controls and handle heavy loads. They should have the ability to sit for long periods, climb ladders and work at heights.

Ø Knowledge of crane operations: Mobile crane drivers must have a comprehensive understanding of crane operations, including load charts, rigging techniques and safe working practices. This knowledge is typically gained through formal training programs and on-the-job experience.

Ø Safety awareness: Safety is a critical aspect of crane / truck / bakkie operations and drivers must be highly safety conscious. They should be knowledgeable about safety regulations, procedures and best practices to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.

Ø Communication skills: Crane / truck / bakkie drivers often work as part of a team, so having good communication skills is essential. They need to effectively communicate with other workers on the job site, including signalers and riggers, to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operations.

Ø Mechanical aptitude: A basic understanding of the mechanical systems and components of our vehicles is helpful for troubleshooting minor issues and performing routine maintenance tasks.

Ø Experience: Prior experience in operating cranes / trucks / bakkies or working in the construction / mining industry would be advantageous.

Ø General: The vehicle operator must possess spatial awareness and the ability to work well under pressure. They must also have a strong understanding of weight distribution; load capacity and the principles of physics involved in our vehicle operations.
