- The primary purpose of this role is to involves using the knowledge of insurance medicine in line with the company’s core purpose, values and goals to maximum sustainability of the business.**Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to**
- Underwriting - Providing medical support by establishing the correct medical decisions for a combination of cases to increase new business for the division.
- Claims - providing medical input and liaising with external providers where necessary to assist with highly technical medical information, in order for claims to be paid out appropriately.
- Ombudsman - Provide written responses to the ombudsman, outlining and explaining objective criteria of claims that have been rejected.
- Frequently discuss cases that require review, second opinions and follow ups to ensure accurate decisions are made.

**Education and Experience**

**Essential**:

- Matric
- Qualified Doctor
- Valid HPCSA Registration
- At least 2 years clinical experience within a private hospital/practice/clinic

**Advantageous**:

- 2 - 4 years corporate experience in an Insurance Industry
- Post Graduate qualification in related field

**Technical Skills and Knowledge**

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite

**Advantageous**:

- Underwriting and Claims knowledge
- Discovery Life Product Knowledge
- Insurance Industry knowledge
- Basic understanding of statistical concepts in terms of Risk
- Basic understanding of actuarial and legal concepts
