**Core purpose of the role**
The Data Governance Officer is responsible for ensuring the effective working of the data governance structures across the division.

**Key deliverables and outputs**
- 1. Collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders in order to gather their data governance requirements, to understand their data, their (Meta) data needs and business context.
- 2. Workout the enterprise data governance strategy and roadmap, aligned with the Chief Data Officer.
- 3. Develop and implement data governance framework, policies, data governance standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise conform the data governance roadmap
- 4. Monitor and control the data governance framework, policy and standards
- 5. Ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities defined by regulator (POPIA, GDPR). Implement and oversee data management controls at strategic & tactical level for regulatory obligations (POPIA, GDPR) while ensuring operability and maintainability in cooperation with business
- 6. Develop and implement data management processes at enterprise level
- 7. Support CDO in the data governance councils
- 8. Define and report on indicators of performance and quality metrics
- 9. Define long term Metadata strategy and capabilities
- 10. Manage Master data that is key to the business
- 11. Define Data Quality approach
- 12. Manage and monitor data quality reporting
- 13. Support and guide business data stewards with their day-to-day activities
- 14. Drive data remediation initiatives
- 15. Set requirements for data quality, data lineage, data security, data privacy and other relevant aspects for business terms / data assets
- 16. Initiate data management improvements, set data quality, data security, data privacy, data issue remediation guidelines and standards
- 17. Guide and coach others in the field of data management, such as data stewards in the business domains, and encourages the organisation to become ‘data minded’

**Academic qualifications**
**Essential**:

- Diploma in IT or BTech or equivalent qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or equivalent qualification

**Advantageous**:

- CDPM certification
- Data governance or management certification

**Work experience**

**Essential**:

- Four to seven years’ experience in IT and with at least three years exposure to Data Governance or Data Quality
- Exposure to DAMA Framework
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) and other commonly used office software products.
