BACKGROUND
Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves, and researches contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora; conceives and hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational, discursive and enriching programmes; encourages intercultural understanding; and strives for access for all.

The museum’s galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with a dedicated space for the permanent collection. The institution also includes the Centre for Art Education, the Centre for the Moving Image, and a Project Space for emerging artists. It opened to the public in September 2017.

**JOB SUMMARY**

This role reports to the Head of Centre for Art Education. The purpose of the ES(CC)is to co-ordinate, manage and facilitate community, development and outreach programmes and is responsible for the compilation of learning and teaching support material or publications related to community collaborative projects. This role serves as an integral part of our front-line staff and requires interaction with the public, communities, and various other groups to develop CFAE education communities both inside and outside the museum. The role includes shared teaching and touring responsibilities with all other CFAE team members relating to other CFAE programmes.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Program Design and Co-ordination for Community Educational Programs**
- Conceptualise, organise, and facilitates community collaborative programmes for children, youth, adults, and teachers from a variety of social contexts
- Oversees the writing and production of teaching and learning resource material for; and publications based on, CC programmes
- Implements a variety of activities and visitor /learner interactions including workshops, tours, facilitated dialogues, art-making activities in the museum or in external venues
- Assists the Museum Educator for schools and family programmes in developing and growing a ZM community of families and adults

**Teaching and Writing**
- Conceptualise, plans, and facilitates practical or theoretical workshops for learners, families, adults, and teachers
- Conceptualise and takes guided educational tours
- Contributes as writer to learning and teaching resource material
- Writes programme briefs.

**Administration**
- Scheduling of all CC programme events on the education digital calendar.
- Ordering art materials and resources
- Recording of numbers for all CC Programmes.
- Responsible for educational content for the ZM newsletter when required.
- Assist the Education Manager in the compilation and maintenance of all CC programme data for CFAE

**Partnerships and Relationship Building**
- Liaison and correspondence with schools, tertiary institutions, the art community, education departments, NGO’s, artists, formal and informal organisations concerning the planning of CC programmes
- Liaison with community partners, education department schools, educational institutions, and relevant organisations
- Partnering with other arts educational community organisations in special projects related to museum exhibitions
- Assist in the development and implementation of new curriculum resources linking museum exhibitions to classroom content
- Promotes the sale of ZM membership with partnering institution, groups, or organisations.

**Planning, Meetings, Exhibitions**
- Curation of exhibitions related to CC programmes
- Attendance of weekly CFAE meetings
- Assistance with the conceptualising and planning of holiday programming
- Regular display of artwork in the CFAE classrooms
- Assistance with all exhibitions related to Education

**JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS**

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completed degree or diploma such as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in art history, or an equivalent qualification.
- A teaching qualification is a strong recommendation.
- Fluency in **isiXhosa is a strong recommendation**

**PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION OR LICENSE REQUIREMENTS**

SACE registration or equivalent is a strong recommendation

**EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in working with community groups, organisations and NGOs. from an art’s educational perspective.
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience related to children and adults.
- Experience in museum education is a strong recommendation.
- Working with learners or adults with Special Educational Needs is a strong recommendation.

**SKILLS**
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to impart knowledge in the context of a guided tour to learners, children, adults and teachers at various levels.
