Engineering & Maintenance is more than the maintenance or care of physical assets; it is a part of the core business of the organisation to ensure the assets perform their required function and allow Anglo American to meet its strategic, operational and compliance requirements.
**Job Description
- The Role**
We are looking for a **Principal Secondary Fleet **to be the overarching expert and owner for the secondary fleet across Anglo’s global open cut mining operations.
**Key role requirements**:
- Develop asset and service strategies for Secondary/ Auxiliary fleet.
- Ensure operations produce 12 week and rolling 52 week plans and review for quality.
- Work with site and Supply Chain to ensure replacement components are available for planned work.
- Coach and mentor site engineers and execution teams as needed.
- Report on deviations to the plan both from operations and Supply of components.
- Refine and develop reliability block diagrams (simulate and determine optimal component replacement strategy, costs, spares needed as stock) taking into consideration OEM recommendations and statistical life of components.
- Develop and share baseline asset tactics taking into account reliability block diagrams, asset strategy and OEM inputs.
- Conduct site visits in order to understand local conditions and planning procedures, etc.
- Conduct community of practices with shared experiences, best practices and develop joint programs of work (Centre and Site improvements).
- Conduct close discussions with OEMs concerning engineering improvements, changed guidelines and feedback from operations.
- Closely collaborate with supply chain on the purchase specifications for equipment and strategic planning with suppliers
- Participates in Root Cause Analysis and Defect Elimination as required.
- Prepare centralised data set for owned fleet that feeds into E&M master data.
**Qualifications
- Formal Qualification**
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years operating / managing a large fleet of open pit equipment.
- Registered Engineer.
- Preferred - A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.
**Technical skills / knowledge requirements**:
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational complexities experienced as an engineer in a mining operation.
- In addition to English proficiency, Portuguese and/or Spanish language skills would be highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated maintenance and operational support experience.
- Proven ability to solve technical and operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders and implementing effective solutions to drive efficiencies.
- Strong OEM management capability
- Demonstrable balance between theoretical mechanical engineering and practical mechanical system maintenance, operations and management
