At KCS the Head of Platform and Layered Solutions is responsible for the end-to-end business process of driving product success in the new emerging tech space. The Head of Platform and Layered Solutions leads a team of product managers, product owners, solution designers and delivery teams and supports the Portfolio Director to deliver product aligned with the agreed strategy and roadmap plans.

The Emerging Technologies portfolio is effectively a start-up within a larger KCS ecosystem. Products, solutions and services created in this area support our monolith ERP solutions (mostly on premise) to extend their value proposition with layered solutions provided in the cloud on a newer technology stack.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Product Management
- Engage with Portfolio Director and senior leaders to define the product scope and strategic direction for Europa and EOS (Platform and Layered Solutions)
- Works with the Head of Customer Insights to interpret market needs, competitor product information, customer requirements and business input to structure and guide product scope and priority decisions
- Define a product roadmap by evaluating value vs effort options across the business
- Manage, refine, prioritise and communicate the product roadmap determined by a business case lead approach to ensure it is in line with overall product strategy and sustainable business growth
- Actively take decisions on a daily basis to re-align priorities and focus the team on the right objectives

High Level Solution Design
- Elicit high level customer and stakeholders problem and value statements and work with Solution Design to flesh out and break down requirements into manageable components
- Work closely with the Technical Directors to design the appropriate architecture for the Emerging Tech Space going forward
- Work closely with the Technical Directors to select the appropriate technologies to solve current and future business problems within this framework
- Brief architects and technical leads on what is expected and help facilitate the discussion to define technical solution options and associated costs for delivering solutions aligned with expectation

Delivery Team Management:

- Communicates with stakeholders - product managers, project managers, and the development team to make sure the goals are clear and the vision is aligned with business objectives
- Leads Delivery Managers for the product to ensure the delivery team stays on track regardless of the agile nature of software development projects
- Leads the execution of delivery objectives against development objectives
- Works closely with the Product Managers and the Portfolio Director to ensure product delivery teams are aligned with product objectives and successfully execute against product roadmap milestones
- Implements best practice for coding standards, technical specifications, code reviews and code quality metrics.
- Works with Product Leads to understand product scope and assign solution design time to further analyse and break down product requirements
- Pro-actively communicate the impact and risks associated with delivery execution against roadmap objectives
- Actively takes decisions on a daily basis to re-align priorities and focus the team on the right objectives

Implements effective tools:

- Provides the framework for the implementation of best practice for the management of code and test cases in collaboration with Development Managers
- Monitors and tracks the Delivery Leads’ implementation of techniques such as “pair programming”, code reviews and others
- Leads the team in the implementation of practices to reduce development time and improve the architecture and quality of the product.

Internal / External Customer Engagement
- Actively build and manage internal customer relationships and engage with external customers on the Emerging Tech value proposition

**Key Requirements**:
**Experience & Knowledge**:

- Experience in defining product / project scope through whiteboard sessions, design diagrams and other tools
- Experience in the solution design of integration platforms and components which could include: layered / mobile solutions, eCommerce websites, third party providers - interacting with on-premise ERP solutions etc.
- Experience in starting up and managing development teams in executing against roadmap objectives or financial targets
- Proven experience in inter-department collaboration and stakeholder management
