JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent will be required to work closely with HOD and Civil Design Team in the office and those who are assigned to work on projects sites. Closely collaborates with the HOD, executive directors & Project Managers in directing, co-ordinating and exercising functional authority for all, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & control, integration, and closing of the civil projects within his area of assigned authority. Work closely with HOD to drive the implementation of the South Zambezi, Civil Engineering Division’s vision of growth. Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling various project elements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The incumbent will work closely with the HOD to
- Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
- Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.
- Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
- Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
- Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
- Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
- Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
- Control project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts.
- Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with international standards and state regulations.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Ensure that all employees are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs
- Formulate systems for smooth running of the Civil Engineering division to enable synergy and coherence
- Design, Reporting and Project Management of projects in Civil Engineering infrastructural services to meet projects objectives (Water, Sewer, Roads.
- Preparation of proposals, tender and contract documents for the infrastructural services mentioned above
- Incumbent is expected to carry out site supervision of construction works for short durations on sites as follows;
i. Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards
ii. Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas
iii. Attending site meetings
iv. Preparing reports
- Do any ad-hoc office duties as assigned by the Executive Management

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

**PEOPLE**
- Incumbent to motivate the team in the Civil Engineering Department to work and produce results as desired by the management
- Work effectively with the team in the Civil Engineering division.
- Assign tasks to the team according to their skills and ability, that must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable realistic and Timebound )

**TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT**

**Personal**:
Engage in activities which contribute to personal CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and maintain professional accreditation.
Responsible for on-going informal and formal development to stay abreast of innovations in the industry.

**Team**:
Identify training and skills gaps in the department
Identify suitable training programs (internal and external) that can fill learning gaps.
Identify and facilitate activities which contribute to development of team members.
Implement and oversee mentoring and informal training/partnering within department.
Provide guidance and training in design skills and such other as necessary to Lead, Senior Engineers, Engineers and Technicians under the incumbent for Continuous Professional Development

**Company**:
Liaise with HR to facilitate training for department
Liaise with other project managers to identify learner ship and bursary opportunities that will benefit the company.

**Administration**
- Ensure filing systems are maintained and up to date
- Ensure that employees operate within ISO standards
- Ensure correct filing and signing of documents as well as necessary approvals are obtained from clients and service providers
- To be aware of the chain of custody of documents/drawings

**Financial**
- Can draw up a departmental budget
- Can ensure project budgets are adhered to
- To operate efficiently and make economically sound decisions on all projects
- Ensure fairness in procurement

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Can take decisions and demonstrate accountability and integrity.
- Can lead and supervise a team to achieve business objectives in all circumstances
- Can troubleshoot and strategies to meet the long-term vision of the company
