**Job Advert Summary**:
In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.

The Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) at the HSRC undertakes statistical surveys and research to monitor indicators for science, technology and innovation in South Africa, Research and Development (R&D), human resources in science and technology and related human mobility data. CeSTII’s two flagship surveys, the National Research and Experimental Development (R&D) Survey and the South African Business Innovation Survey, provide important data for analytical studies and the production of national science and technology (S&T) indicators on behalf of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). CeSTII also conducts other surveys including the measurement of innovation in the Agricultural sector in South Africa (AGRI-BIS) and the measurement of innovation in the informal sector (IID) CeSTII provides an exciting environment for growth in terms of science, technology and innovation indicators for interested applicants with skills and interests in STI data collection and research, statistical analysis and innovation policy research as well as international engagements in these areas.

**RESEARCH ASSISTANTS**:

**Minimum Requirements**:

- A minimum of a National Diploma or equivalent experience;
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Knowledge of MS Access will be advantageous;
- Proven survey research and fieldwork experience;
- Skilled in telephone interviewing;
- Good negotiation skills;
- Intellectual and personal integrity, a well-developed work ethic, and drive;
- A strong service orientation and ability to prioritise;
- Willingness to learn;
- A capacity to work under pressure and to work after hours, when needed;
- Confident with excellent spoken and written English;
- The environment demands a high level of teamwork orientation while expecting the incumbent to be self-motivated and able to work independently;
- Must be able to meet deadlines consistently and have excellent time management skills;

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Online Dispatch and follow-up of Survey Questionnaires;
- Telephone and online-based fieldwork on large national surveys;
- Data capture and understanding of the basic principles of data
