ELRU is seeking an enthusiastic and self-driven researcher to support the MERL Manager in implementing the various components of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) plan including the collection, collation, analysis and reporting of data to assist in ensuring accountability and efficiency of ELRU’s programmes and services. To ensure the quality of data and disseminate data to relevant internal and external stakeholders and to manage the departmental employees on their quality and delivery of outputs.
**Main Job Responsibilities**
- **Conduct Research and Analysis**: Collate and report on relevant information from databases to write professional reports. Assist in conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analyses of data for reports. Assist with communicating findings to the various project managers for implementation. Disseminate key programmatic information relevant to marketing and communications, advocacy or internal review. Assist in conducting annual programme evaluations for all programmes. Assist in managing research projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables. Design and implement research methodologies, including surveys, focus groups, and data collection instruments. Analyses large datasets and interprets complex data to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Assist in developing and maintaining databases, ensuring data integrity and security. Prepare comprehensive research reports, policy briefs, and presentations for various stakeholders, including policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.
- **Funded Research Projects**: Analysis and report as required for programme reports. Collaborate with teams to integrate research findings into policy development and programme implementation. Stay updated on the latest research methodologies, tools, and policy developments relevant to the field.
- **Generate Reports**: Produce monthly internal reports, including deliverables and programme outcomes. Prepare site visit reports. Track reporting deadlines to ensure adherence to timelines. Ensure the accuracy of reports submitted to the relevant stakeholders.
- **Family & Community Motivators (FCM) Training & Development**: Assist in conducting regular check-ins with Family & Community Motivator (FCM) members to monitor progress made and work conducted at designated facilities. Assist in identifying and recommending training needs and initiatives to improve the skills levels of FCM on the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools and the database. Assist in conducting annual workshops on M&E tools and address challenges experienced by the FCMs.
- **Supervise Data Capturers / Junior Researchers**:Supervise, coach, guide and motivate the Data Capturers, junior researchers and interns to improve their performance on all projects, and behaviour and reach their goals.
- **Stakeholder Management**: Assist in preparations for engagement with the key stakeholders to meet all reporting obligations (internal and external). Communicate regularly with all managers and Stakeholders to provide feedback. Plan meetings with the relevant managers. Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts to support research initiatives. Assist in preparing outputs on research findings for presentation at conferences, workshops, and other professional events.
**Pre Requisite for the Position**
- Master’s degree in Research, Data Analytics, Public Policy, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of working experience leading research and data analysis, preferably in a policy-relevant context.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, SAS) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong knowledge of research methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Proven track record of publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals or presenting at professional conferences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience in policy analysis and the ability to translate research findings into policy recommendations.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of research integrity and ethics.
- Strong planning and Organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and deliverables.
- Professional and confidential approach to dealing with sensitive information.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, and Google Analytics).
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques and big data analytics.
