Our client, one of the biggest banks in South Africa who is a firm believer in technical innovation and leading-edge financial solutions is urgently looking for a Manager: Credit Evaluation to evaluate and approve/decline credit within delegated authority and where outside delegated authority, present high quality risk assessment and recommendation to line and credit committee.

Ensure an efficient and effective support service to the business partners and other role players on business lending activities within the personal and business clients division thereby ensuring that risk is minimised whilst service levels are maintained at optimal levels, assist the business unit in structuring, packaging and exploring potential lending solutions for high-value commercial and business clients transactions, undertake reporting and industry analysis relating to the key credit and operational risks pertaining to the portfolio.

**In order to be considered the following is required**:

- Chartered Accountant, BSc Agric Economics, Post graduate degree in Commerce / Business
- 3+ years of Corporate and/or Investment Banking related experience plus a strong understanding of business principles and practices OR
- 5 - 7 years Commercial and business banking experience of which the last two years at a senior management level
- A good knowledge of accounting, economics, commercial law, business valuations and cash flow analysis
- Sound knowledge of collateral, commercial and business banking suite of lending products, systems and procedures
- Understanding of various industries within the commercial and business banking segment including the impact of fluctuating market conditions and associated risk factors across key industries and sectors
- A sound understanding and appreciation of credit evaluation principles, risk management practices, reporting, governance and credit policies

**Responsibilities**:

- Direct influence upon credit quality, return, consumption of economic capital, Weighted Risk Assets (WRAs), operational risk and portfolio concentration / shape, failure to have these areas maintained at world class levels would significantly impact bank profitability and brand
- Ensure that service provided meets or exceeds the required service levels as set out in the service agreements regarding credit assessments whilst risk is maintained as prescribed
- Supporting the business partners in accordance with the group’s core values, policies and procedures, through the sharing of knowledge, coaching and by assisting in improving the quality of risk
- Engage with our business partners by providing strategic input and insight from a risk perspective, to assist our business partners when formulating their tactics
- Be part of a due diligence investigation team, as necessary
- Manage operational expenses within relevant budgets / revised estimates
- Ensure agreed risk parameters are adhered to
- Provide input into pricing to ensure the principle of risk and return is ingrained in our lending decisions
- Portfolio reporting covering credit, operational, people, governance risk
- Assist commercial and business clients in achieving their business objectives and targets
- Maintain a high quality lending book through the judicious and effective management thereof to ensure that non-performing loan and credit losses targets are not exceeded
- Add value to commercial and business clients by delivering a prompt, efficient and professional credit risk management service within prescribed turnaround times
- Ensure risk / reward considerations are appropriately debated and agreed
- Progress against own personal development plan.
- Quality of reporting
