**Job Advert Summary**:
Reporting to the Deputy Auditor-General (DAG), the Head of Specialised Audits will provide strategic leadership, direction and overall management of the specialised audit portfolio in both national and provincial spheres of government. Responsible for the leadership of the specialised audits executive team and collectively ensuring integration and coordination of audit activities across. Responsible to ensure that agreed objectives of the strategic plan are implemented across the specialised audits portfolio.

Strategic imperatives:

- Build and lead the organization’s specialised audits portfolio;
- Gain an understanding of the organization and participate fully in all strategic deliberations; and;
- Help to communicate and uphold the organization’s values and ensure that they come through in all key initiatives and finance-oriented decisions.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Post-graduate degree in Computing Science or Forensic Science and Technology or a related field and/or a recognized accounting or professional information systems auditing designation (e.g. CISA, CISM,) and any other specialist credential that is relevant to the role.
- Minimum of 10+ years of relevant executive experience.
- Incumbent is also required to keep their knowledge up-to-date about auditing practices, standards and significant issues, and establish broad networks of peer contacts internally, locally, and through national and provincial professional associations.
- Demonstrate a professional background with superior leadership ability and ethics.
- A strong track record in client and project management and a capacity to lead and manage audit operations are key.
- A sound understanding of the nature and operations of the public sector, and strong communications skills are vital.
- Seasoned private or public sector management experience in an audit environment; some private sector consulting experience would be an asset.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, manage and inspire others.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Primarily responsible for determining the strategic direction of the, the overall formulation of the strategy to achieve the vision of the AG.
- Responsible for the annual strategic plan, the annual budget that will underscore the annual strategic plan as well as reporting on the annual performance of the organisation.
- Ensuring that sub-strategies and/or strategic initiatives are aligned to the overall strategy, give input into them, play an active role in monitoring them and ensuring they are implemented in an effective and efficient manner.
- Adequate on-going environmental scanning and analysis to ensure that the organisation stay relevant and effective.
- Oversees policy development pertaining to, including amongst others, ethics, security guidelines, quality management, human resources, environmental and regulatory requirements
- Role models core values and demonstrate leadership consistently with all members of the community.

**Performance Audits Responsibilities**:

- Contribute to the effective development and implementation of the priorities within Corporate Strategy by supporting and developing staff to enable them to achieve substantial and effective completion and implementation of the annual audit plan for the Performance Audit business unit.
- Direct and be accountable for the planning, management and delivery of performance audits as well as managing a range of activities relating to the corporate management of the.
- Support the management and systems strengthening of the Performance Audit business unit with an emphasis on the professional development of audit staff developing a wide range of skills and expertise.
- Accountable for the results and impacts of program activities under his/her direction and for the selection, development and allocation of professional staff and contracted resources.
- Lead role in ensuring performance audits are planned, performed, and reported in accordance with professional auditing standards and policies.
- Influence the strengthening of the control environment surrounding projects and programmes, through Governance, Risk and Compliance and other Risk Management tools
- Represent the as required to the Parliament, audit clients and the public.
- Review required documentation and take accountability for presentations at Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA), Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and other Parliamentary committees.

**Information Systems Audit Responsibilities**:

- Oversee complex methodologies and professional standards that are continually evolving at a provincial, national and international level, requiring specialized IT knowledge, experience and skill sets as well as an accounting designation.
