**Purpose**:To oversee the activity of the quality assurance department and staff, developing, implementing, and maintaining a system of quality and reliability testing for the organization's products and/or development processes. To oversee site inspections and quality checks on substation projects; be responsible for the organization, implementation, and scheduling of quality checks on equipment (power transformers, HV and MV switchgear, cabling, protection and control panels and equipment, battery chargers and batteries, civil scope (control buildings, fencing, substation platforms and structural steelwork))

Qualifications/ Experience:

- _Quality Management and Quality Inspector Courses_

Minimum Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

- _Electrical/Civil Engineering diploma and/or relevant trade _
- _More than 5 years’ experience as a Clerk of Work/Site Supervisor on Eskom Transmission or_

Distribution substations (up to 132kV)
- _Detailed understanding of substation civil and electrical scope (Eskom Transmission or Distribution_
- _Detailed knowledge of Eskom Transmission or Distribution substation standards_
- _Detailed knowledge and understanding of OEM and Eskom Quality Inspection and test Plans_
- _Ability to read and interpret electrical engineering drawings and schematics_
- _Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings_
- _Some experience of substation equipment testing, and commissioning will be advantageous_
- _Driver’s License and own _

**Responsibilities**:
The major responsibility of this position is to ensure quality of work on substation sites across SA.
- _The position will involve liaising with Eskom Quality personnel, Engineers and Project _
- _Adherence to Quality system on site_
- _Reporting on any non-conformances to the Construction Manager and Project Manager_
- _Issuing NCRs to subcontractors and suppliers in line with Quality system_
- _Ensure that the multidisciplinary engineering and design intent is being carried through the construction phase, supporting safe, successful construction completion and ensuring commissioning and start-up success._
- _Develops an effective Quality Assurance and Quality Control team_
- _Develops plans to continually improve departmental performance_
- _Ensures the required level of Quality during the Construction Phase_
- _Measure and control the Quality performance of the EPC contractor on site_
- _Ensure the custody of engineering assets (tools), including data, software, computers and other hardware and intellectual property_
- _Acquire and develop tools needed for an effective, competitive, and cost-efficient service_
- _Coordinate tools acquisition and development_
- _Participate in the project management team_
- _Manage individual quality members_
- _Manage KPIs of subordinates_
- _Compile all required QMS documents to conduct and control a successful project_
- _Manage the development and maintenance of Quality Management Systems_
- _Develop and maintain system for measuring project Quality performance_
- _Coordinate functional quality audits_
- _Manage and report on the quality on all sites_
- _Align the quality activities and personnel to further the project objectives_
- _Ensure processes are in place to upgrade competence and skills at all levels_
- _Ensure that safe construction practices, policies and procedures are in place to achieve targets as per project plan_
- _Support the implementation of site HR practices_
- _Support the implementation of any SHE initiatives_
- _Interpret quality information and initiate and monitor corrective action and quality improvement programs_
- _Provide a handover procedure / system_
- _Ensure the quality produced on the Project is to the required procedures / specifications_
- _Keep up with state of the art in the field of Quality_
- _Control of concessions_
- _Control of non-conformances_
- _Plan, organize, lead, control and develop subordinates' activities, set goals and objectives for the team, monitor and provide feedback_
- _Conduct and participate in Performance Reviews for sub-function_
