Join the Charles Hope Team – Head Chef (Cape Town, South Africa)

Charles Hope Cape Town is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and passionate Head Chef, based in Cape Town, South Africa, to lead our amazing kitchen team.

If you're a collaborative team leader with a flair for exceptional pizza-making and tapas experience, we want to hear from you This is an exciting opportunity to work in a brand-new kitchen and restaurant, which has seen extensive investment in state-of-the-art kitchen infrastructure and equipment, ensuring the best environment to deliver exceptional dining experiences.

What Will You Be Doing?
  1. Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire a hard-working team of chefs in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  2. Operational Excellence: Report directly to the Hospitality Manager, overseeing the smooth running of all kitchen operations on-site.
  3. Quality & Efficiency: Ensure the delivery of top-quality pizzas, tapas, efficient kitchen speed, and exceptional service.
  4. Training & Growth: Develop and maintain a competent chef team by conducting regular appraisals, training, and fostering engagement.
  5. Financial Responsibility: Monitor and manage GP, portion control, and stock costs. Ensure vigilant tracking of wastage and costings.
  6. Hygiene & Safety: Maintain 5-star food hygiene standards and adhere to food safety protocols.
  7. Staff Management: Manage the kitchen rota in alignment with budgeted staff costs.
  8. Stock Management: Oversee stock ordering, FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation, and ensure produce is fresh and stored compliantly.
  9. Inventory Checks: Conduct monthly stock takes and provide variance reports to the Centre Manager.
What Are We Looking For?
  1. Pizza Mastery & Tapas Expertise: Expert-level pizza-making skills with a real passion for creating exceptional pizza You should also have solid experience in preparing and serving tapas dishes.
  2. Leadership Experience: A Head Chef with previous experience leading and developing a kitchen team, who enjoys collaboration and has excellent communication skills.
  3. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail in all aspects of kitchen operations.
  4. Food Safety & Hygiene Knowledge: In-depth understanding of risk assessments, food safety, and hygiene within a commercial kitchen setting.
  5. Customer-Facing Communication: As the kitchen is visible to guests, you must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues while building strong relationships.
