We have recently set up an office in Cape Town, South Africa to have an on-the-ground presence in one of the major continents we work in.

Given the office is very new, employees can expect to be working in a fast-paced, start-up environment where you will support the Head of Sustainable Sourcing and Impact (SSI) to further establish and lead this new office.

About the position

As a Sustainability Consultant, you have an opportunity to accelerate the sustainability transitions of our time. You will join a young, diverse, and motivated team, serving as a key link between the head of the Sustainable Sourcing and Impact team, and Analysts. You will work predominantly in international agricultural sectors such as coffee, cocoa, tea, spices, fruits, among others.

The specific role is intended to work primarily with our data-driven service offering. This includes primarily developing M&E frameworks, conducting (impact) evaluations, and developing sustainable sourcing and business models. This is particularly focused on developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and conducting (impact) evaluations. As such, the role will focus on projects with strong data collection elements, such as establishing income levels of smallholder farmers, establishing the cost of (sustainable) production, and developing business models for companies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analyses: Conduct research and analyses, develop extensive quantitative (financial) analyses, independently conduct statistical analyses (preferably in R or Stata), such as impact evaluations and SROI estimations.
  • Strategy consulting: develop strategic opportunities by providing in-depth market, competitor and customer insights.
  • Project management: managing the projects we do. Your tasks include owning the entire project journey, from proposal development through managing your client and other stakeholders to satisfactory closure.
  • Business Development: This includes analysing regulatory and market trends, writing proposals, attending conferences, seeking partnerships, all while building your own sustainability and market profile.

Qualifications

  • The right mentality, including:
    • Business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset
    • Ability to work independently and a drive to create new opportunities
    • Interest in and motivation to do Business Development
  • The right skills, including:
    • An affinity for numbers and analytical prowess
    • Excellent Excel skills
    • Experience conducting statistical analyses in R, Stata or similar software
    • Fluent in English. Ability to work in Spanish or French will be a big plus.
  • The right background and experience, including:
    • A master's degree in a relevant field, for example (Agricultural) Economics, Econometrics, or Sustainable Development
    • A minimum of three years work experience, of which a minimum of one year's experience in sustainability
    • A minimum of one year's experience managing projects
    • Educational and work experience related to econometric models and/or impact evaluations
  • Documentation to be able to work in South Africa. We do not provide any sponsorship.
