About the Role We are seeking an experienced Technical Operations Manager (TOM) to provide portfolio‑wide technical leadership, HV governance, and operational support across all O&M activities within EDF Renewables South Africa’s operational assets. This role serves as the central High Voltage (HV) technical authority, holding the GMR 2(1) legal appointment on behalf of the O&M company, and ensures safe, compliant, and reliable performance of substations, EBOP systems, and associated technical infrastructure. You will work closely with Plant Managers and site teams to set technical standards, oversee HV activities, and drive continuous improvement in reliability and compliance. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & HV Governance Carry the GMR 2(1) legal appointment for multiple operational facilities. Provide expert technical guidance on HV systems, substations, protection, and control. Ensure compliance with Grid Code, SANS standards, OEM guidelines, and internal procedures. Lead HV switching, isolation practices, and safety protocols. Conduct Root Cause Analyses for HV incidents and failures. Operational Support Support Plant Managers with troubleshooting and optimisation of EBOP equipment. Provide functional leadership and technical direction to HV Technicians. Ensure competence, training, and compliance of HV Technicians across sites. Perform monthly site visits for compliance and mentorship. Systems, Processes & Compliance Implement and optimise O&M systems (CMMS, digital workflows). Develop technical standards, procedures, and engineering guidelines. Ensure compliance with O&M Agreements, PPAs, EPC contracts, and grid connection requirements. Support audits, warranty claims, and technical dispute resolution. Performance & Continuous Improvement Define and track technical KPIs (availability, reliability, OPEX drivers). Benchmark asset performance and identify optimisation opportunities. Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the O&M organisation. Stakeholder Management Mentor HV Technicians and align technical priorities with Plant Managers. Liaise with internal teams and external contractors to resolve technical issues. Represent the company in technical forums, audits, and industry platforms. What You’ll Need Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng, BTech, BSc Eng, or equivalent). Eligible for or experienced in holding a GMR 2(1) appointment. Valid driver’s licence. Experience Minimum 10 years in electrical operations, maintenance, or technical management. At least 5 years in renewable energy (wind, solar, or hybrid projects). Proven experience with HV systems, substations, and grid‑connected assets. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of HV networks, substations, and EBOP components. Ability to interpret electrical drawings, SCADA data, and OEM documentation. Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills. High integrity and commitment to safety. Preferred: GCC, HV switching certification, RCA methodology, experience with CMMS and ERP systems. Why Join Us?
