Location:

  • Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Bioscience (SBIMB) - 9 Jubilee Road Parktown -Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Installing and configuring software, hardware and networks
    • Install and configure software and hardware
    • Manage network servers and technology tools
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
    • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
    • Upgrade systems with latest releases and models
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Train new system users and set up their accounts
    • Set up new user accounts
    • Inform and train users on new features

Required minimum education and training:

  • Honour’s or Master’s Degree in IT, Computer Science or the equivalent

Required minimum work experience:

  • 5 years’ experience as a system administrator or similar role
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
  • Ability to create scripts in Python or other language
  • System administration and IT Certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:

  • Knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery
  • Familiar with various operating systems and platforms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in bioinformatics and health informatics will be an added advantage
