The Role: The Equity Partner will be at the forefront of client relationships, leading high-profile legal engagements while fostering new business opportunities. They will oversee teams of legal professionals, mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the development of the firm’s practice areas. As a key decision-maker, the Equity Partner will have a direct impact on the firm’s profitability, governance, and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead client engagements, serving as the primary point of contact and delivering top-tier legal services.
  • Drive business development efforts, identifying new markets, expanding the client base, and enhancing the firm's market share.
  • Provide leadership to teams, ensuring the professional growth of junior lawyers and promoting a collaborative work environment.
  • Manage complex legal matters across various sectors, ensuring efficiency and high-quality service delivery.
  • Contribute to firm governance, participating in decision-making processes and strategic planning.
  • Oversee financial aspects, including budgeting and profitability of legal engagements.

Requirements:

  • LLB or equivalent, with admission as an attorney in South Africa.
  • At least 10 years of post-qualification experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a partner or senior leadership role.
  • Proven ability in business development with a substantial client following.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience mentoring legal teams.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and firm profitability.
  • Expertise in legal trends and regulations, particularly in corporate, commercial, litigation, or real estate.
