Position Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for a seasoned senior actuary to lead actuarial research and development within the pricing team, reporting to the Chief Pricing Actuary. This role involves establishing and maintaining pricing standards for core product lines and conducting actuarial research on emerging trends in retail life insurance risk products.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain an efficient development framework for RGA's key product.
  • Conduct technical and strategic actuarial research to support internal clients and enhance RGA's research capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the In-Force Management team to assess deal performance and recommend strategic actions.
  • Work closely with Global Data Analytics and Global Experience Studies' teams to provide necessary tools and expertise to the South African office.
  • Coordinate with regional pricing actuary for well-considered basis development proposals.
  • Engage in global research forums, sharing insights among peers and deriving valuable business insights from various data sources.
  • Stay updated on market trends, products, and participate in industry committees.
  • Manage actuarial knowledge within the South African office.
  • Support infrastructure development for monitoring emerging experience.
Requirements
  • Seasoned Actuary with a minimum of 15 years of experience in life insurance.
  • Expertise in developing pricing or valuation basis for life insurance risk products.
  • Solid foundation in actuarial pricing and product knowledge.
  • Proficiency in working with large datasets using SQL, R, and Python.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and Power BI.
  • Ability to build automated data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical modeling techniques such as Generalized Linear Modeling.
  • Familiarity with risk products in the South African market.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Leadership skills to manage teams effectively.
  • Innovative, proactive, and dedicated to improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • People management expertise.
