Within the CISCFS, the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in developing human capabilities and social cohesion through the family can be found.

The SARChI offers a vibrant research space of strengthening capacity in research development and strengthening capacity of students and researchers.

The SARChI has just completed the first cycle of implementing the research project of the Chair The first cycle focused on exploring the family, human capabilities and social cohesion with the intention of developing guidelines.

The second cycle (2023/ focuses on developing, implementing and evaluating interventions and tools from the developed guidelines.

In addition, the SARChI project will conduct further research on developing family capabilities as a theoretical addition to Capability Theory.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects in alignment with the objectives of the SARChI;
  • Publish highquality research papers in accredited journals and present findings through science engagement through scientific and nonscientific media and platforms;
  • Participate in grant writing and secure funding for research projects;
  • Mentor students involved in research activities
  • Provide training on research methods
  • Engage and coconstruct interventions with families and community stakeholders to strengthen families

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters focusing on the family
  • PhD Registration focusing on the family
  • Demonstrated expertise in the study of the family
  • At least one (1) accepted or published article, book, book chapter
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills especially with and in communities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment
  • Ability to project manage
