SPE 04/24 Assistant Conservation Officer

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Grade 1
  • Courses towards a nature conservation diploma or degree
would be advantageous

  • Up to two years' relevant experience in nature conservation
and/or estuary management

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation such as NEMA,

ICMA & NWA as well as the

City's by-laws

  • Good interpersonal skills are advantageous.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office Applications)
  • A valid code EB and PRDP Driver's License is essential
  • Willingness and availability to work outside normal working
hours during emergencies and planned overtime

  • Peace Officer's course and fire training such as a crew
leader is an added advantage

Key Performance Areas

  • Creating awareness about the need for sound estuary
management

  • Ensuring legal compliance
  • Inputting into Legal compliance and enforcement in the
estuary

  • Managing teams to ensure compliance with health and
safety standards and best practice in estuary management

  • Responding to pollution incidents and environmental disasters
  • Liaison with different city line departments, private land
owners, communities and partners

  • Acting as the interface between private landowners,
communities and city line departments

  • Gathering data about biophysical factors associated with
estuaries, including salinity, tides, water quality, human

exploitative use, and bird and other estuarine life forms
