You will collaborate with site technical and operations teams in identifying and assessing opportunities for process optimization value using APC. You will lead projects on the rollout of new APC projects, conduct assessment on the performance of existing solutions, conduction investigations on process performance.

Job Description:

  • As a Control Technology Specialist, you will be supplying advanced process control (APC) solutions and support to the operating and central units. The role will include a direct expert technical support to the four functional areas within the process control department on the applicable technology segment. The Control Technology Specialist group will consist of recognised specialists in four defined process control fields which are critical to the success of a sustainable control solution.
  • Assist in defining the technical strategy in the applicable focus area and ensure its implementation
  • Align strategy with the corporate and production drivers
  • Establish network of excellence in applicable industry to support technical focus area
  • Review operational efficiency versus control system objective
  • Define required support structure to ensure sustainability of applicable technology area
  • Benchmark technology deployed and results achieved against the industry standard and best practice
  • Manage applicable Research and Development portfolio as instructed to support technology strategy
  • Identify suitable technology centers of excellence to support technology strategy
  • Align R&D output with technology strategy
  • Assist in defining and implementing training requirements to support technology investment on operations
  • Develop and maintain strategy document to support applicable technology focus for use by both central and production control teams
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions

This position is at a Band 6 level in Process Instrumentation & Control department and reports into the Lead Control Engineer.

  • Qualifications
  • Relevant post graduate engineering qualification (BEng Chemical Eng, Metallurgy, Electrical Electronics

Your experience should include:

years' experience in process control

  • Extensive experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control solutions
  • Experience in managing and implementing engineering projects
  • Experience in Line Management of technical teams and working with contractors and consultants
  • Experience in minerals processing covering concentrating, smelting and refining would be preferred
  • Excellent understanding of advanced process control techniques with emphasis on modelbased control
  • Experience with data analysis tools and programming languages would be an advantage
  • Good exploratory data analysis skills covering data collection, processing, analysis, statistical modelling and visualisation
  • Knowledge and experience with G2 Gensym would be an added advantage
