The African Centre for Transnational Criminal Justice (ACTCJ) undertakes research and postgraduate training in the field of transnational criminal justice particularly international criminal law, transitional justice, and transnational criminal law.

The mission of ACTCJ is to become a centre of excellence that advances the body of knowledge and produces graduates with critical expertise in key areas of transnational criminal justice where African states are facing multiple transnational threats and challenges.

This mission is guided by our core mandates in research, postgraduate teaching, and community engagement.

Our researchers and students are currently working on topics with cross-cutting themes in international criminal law, terrorism, armed conflict, transitional justice, human trafficking, anti-corruption and the conflict-terrorism-organised crimes nexus.


  • Conduct research and publish, participate in research projects, as well as work closely with the Director towards advancing the research focus areas of the ACTCJ
  • Facilitation of learning, primarily at postgraduate level
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Academic and general administration
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Community engagement
  • Manage the ACTCJ's social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and assist with the updating of the webpage
  • Assist with the organisation of webinars, seminars, conferences; public lectures and other academic events

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements for the position:

  • LLD or equivalent in the field of Public International Law
The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment:

  • Evidence of supervision experience at LLB or Masters level
  • Teaching experience at LLB or Masters level
  • Evidence of peer reviewed research publications

Competencies required:

  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders in government, academia and civil society.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to dynamic work circumstances
  • Ability to develop manuscripts for publication in accredited, high impact journals
