Position Summary:

Academic Coaches are responsible for supporting students' academic success by providing coaching, group and individual support. They will facilitate active learning through workshops and collaborating with partners and staff. The coach will use data to make data driven decisions and support their work. Words of encouragement are also provided to help keep the student on-track. Coaches are required to be supportive and natural motivators with excellent administration skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide academic coaching and support to students

Collaborate to develop support and programming that will promote successful outcomes for the students

Assist students with understanding reviewer feedback

Plan, design and conduct workshops and programming that facilitates learning, provides academic support and empowers students to become active and engaged learners

Facilitate learning by identifying, developing and disseminating helpful, updated print and or digital resources for courses offered

Create a welcoming environment in all coaching areas by modelling positive and inspiring behavior

Be natural motivators who are always positive and encouraging to their students

Have excellent administration skills and be able to keep records updated

Be able to build good relationships with students, staff and partners

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written and must be able to share relevant information immediately

Flexibility of time as some students are in different time zones

Flexibility and adaptability of approach as not all students learn in the same way

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree or enrollment in a Master's degree program preferred)
  • Prior collegelevel experience with online learning preferred
  • Knowledge or expertise in competencybased education
  • Ability to score consistently using a rubric
  • Skill working in an electronic management system
  • An encouraging and respectful attitude toward all students and colleagues; "cando" attitude
  • Demonstrated level of English fluency at the academic/higher education level
  • Demonstrated level of fluency in at least one African language: Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, or Swahili
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and utilize rapidly changing technological platforms
  • Flexibility

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Coaches will work remotely and are expected to have access to good internet.

Compensation


Reviewers will be offered a competitive salary, paid leave (including sick, vacation, and maternity/paternity), and a one-year contract, renewable at the end of the contract period, depending on performance.
