A multinational Investment Management company is seeking a Head of Operations to join their Operations Department.

This role is responsible for oversight and overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the business, including post trade settlements and private client administration across the equities, derivatives, and bond markets, locally and globally.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BCom, B.Compt, BSC Degree,
  • Completion of ideally all / some of the JSE Exams as listed below:
  • JSE RPE Exams
  • Introduction to Financial Markets
  • Regulations and Ethics of the South African Financial Markets
  • Equity Settlement Officer Exams
  • Bond Settlement Officer Exams
  • Bond Market Module
  • Derivative Market Module
  • Members of the South African Institute of Stockbrokers (SAIS) will have a distinct advantage
  • 10+ years in a stockbroking environment with exposure to settlements, risk & compliance
  • People management experience
  • Advanced Excel, Nutron, BDA, & Swordfish

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Dealing with matters escalated by the team, and recognising the need for intervention
  • Streamlining of current systems and processes
  • Ensure that the proper operational and administrative systems, controls, and processes are in place
  • Ensuring client trading lines are set up promptly
  • Taking note of relevant JSE Communications and participate in JSE Testing as required
  • Analyse the root cause of any possible breaches and recommend preventative measures
  • Develop and document business processes and positively contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Coordinate and submit annual SWIFT attestation requirements
  • Support the Risk and Compliance Officer to assist in embedding a culture of compliance within the business and ensure Compliance with applicable legislation including JSE Rules and Directives, taxation, etc.
  • Keep the EXCO and Board appraised of significant matters timeously
  • Assist with the coordination of the yearend audit as it pertains to the Operations Team
  • Ensure the team provides accurate and timeous reporting for inclusion in the Monthly Management Accounts
  • Review and signoff payments as required
  • Participate in client engagement presentations, feedback as well as assisting in the management of relationships with key partners, clients and vendors
Team Management

  • Provide leadership and oversight over the Administration team's deliverables as outlined in their individual Role Score Cards
  • Responsible for the leading, coaching, and managing of the Administration team
  • Implement and manage appropriate structures to ensure the team meet their objectives and delivery
  • Ensure team members are adequately trained, as well as assessing and driving ongoing training needs in the team
