You will be Marketing Actuary with a strong emphasis on costing responsibilities, whilst building strong client relationships and taking ownership for individual insurance and reinsurance clients in the East and West African markets.

This includes liaising with intermediaries such as brokers.

This covers:

  • Effective servicing approach to market by not only understanding client needs, but also have a great understanding of internal resources needs and capacity
  • Advise clients on the full spectrum of Swiss Re products and differentiating solutions to meet their strategic growth aspirations and Swiss Re's business objectives
  • Significant costing responsibility for some of our key clients, working closely with the Southern Africa clients markets team to bring strong technical expertise to the client and to grow the portfolio
  • Client management responsibilities for Health Insurance clients and collaboration with the medical reimbursement products team
  • Building strategic relationships with key client contacts and foster trust and collaboration in all engagements
  • Own the quote process for assigned opportunities using technical expertise to support costing, review, and approve quotes within own authority
  • Responsible to run the costing for quotes up to their authority level
  • Market visits to clients in East and West Africa including representing Swiss Re in relevant market events and forums
  • Owning the development and implementation of market strategy in East and West Africa on L&H including a view of optimal deployment of resources
  • Originate new opportunities/business in Core, Solutions and Transactions
  • Collaborate with the Swiss Re sustainability team to drive and contribute to sustainability initiatives in the region

We have a dual mandate in wholistically owning the client relationships, but also in owning a significant part of the technical offering for clients serviced under the CMCA (Client Manager with Costing Authority) framework.


Requirements:

  • Qualified actuary with 35 years' experience across different functions in the life and health insurance industry
  • Interest in Customer Engagement and Servicing
  • An understanding of Sub-Saharan African markets including exposure to major economies in the region
  • Interest in innovation in the insurance value chain and in product development
  • Exposure to different cultures and ways of working
  • Proactive "hunting" attitude and ability to read people and build new relationships
  • Ability to not get stuck in the detail and to see the bigger picture, being cognizant of the longerterm market implications
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to influence the wider cross functional team and present a business case to senior management
  • Be an encouraging teamplayer contributing to the business unit across multiple fields.
  • Understanding of business French would be an added advantage.
