Position Purpose:

The Scientific Officer (SO) will be responsible for flow cytometry other data analysis for clinical studies.

S/he will design experiments, conduct some hands-on research and assist with experimental troubleshooting as required, ensuring that laboratory clinical assays meet appropriate quality level standards.

S/he will write laboratory documents for assays being conducted for clinical trials. S/he will report findings at scientific meetings and other venues and assist with manuscript, grant and report writing.

Laboratory Research and Data Analysis (70%)

  • Perform advanced multiparameter flow cytometry and other types of assays, troubleshooting and assisting with resolution of any issues.
  • Perform advanced analysis of flow cytometry and other types of data generated in the lab.
  • Lead efforts to develop, qualify or validate clinical assays to be fitforpurpose for clinical trial testing, including the writing of qualification or validation reports.
  • Ensure that qualified or validated assays remain of the highest quality by leading good lifecycle management practices such as overseeing critical reagents, performing reagent bridging, assay trending and rootcause investigations.
  • Coordinate establishment and implementation of new techniques in the laboratory, conducting studies to answer immunological questions related to vaccination.
  • Follow, update, modify and write lab protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), study
- specific procedures (SSP) and other study-related documents/reports.

  • Assist with training of lab and clinic staff in lab techniques and/or theory, as required.

Project Management (20%)

  • Work closely with the Endpoints team to ensure seamless execution of sample analysis.
  • Manage projects, interfacing with lab, the flow cytometry specialist, statistical and clinic staff as required.
  • Work with laboratory leadership to ensure the success of the overall study goals.

Laboratory Operations (5%)

  • Share oncall duties with lab personnel to respond to equipment alarms in a timely manner after normal work hours (offhours).
  • Attend and participate in appropriate laboratory meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of the laboratory environment (e.g. laboratory safety).

Quality Assurance (QA) (5%)

  • Conduct all work according to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines and auditable
- standards, ensuring accurate and timely reporting and record keeping.

  • Assist with review of laboratory records, ensuing compliance with GCLP guidelines.
