Divisional Manager, Sustainability

We seek a Divisional Manager to lead and develop a global team, focusing on sustainability reporting and helping clients manage issues across the ESG agenda.


Position Overview:

The Divisional Manager will lead sustainability reporting activities, align clients' reporting with industry best practices, and ensure high-quality service delivery.

This includes data collection, assurance, and strategic growth to meet sustainability targets. They will also oversee the climate change department.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic and Financial Management:

  • Provide strategic growth and direction for the division.
  • Manage and review projects ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and quality standards.
  • Oversee financial management including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.

Project and Client Management:

  • Act as a key account manager, maintaining client relationships and fulfilling project sponsor roles.
  • Compile and review specialist reports and project proposals.
  • Ensure the quality of results meets the company's internal standards.

Team Development:

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and performance management processes.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and succession planning for the team.
  • Report on departmental performance and manage workload schedules.

Sustainability Reporting and Compliance:

  • Stay updated on disclosure and listing requirements and frameworks.
  • Produce sustainability reports (TNFD, ISSB, GRI, SASB)
  • Compile annual responses to investor questionnaires (CDP, DJSI) and improve scores.
  • Develop and manage climate risk and mitigation strategies, including sciencebased targets and TCFDaligned reporting.
  • Develop Modern Slavery Statements and strategies.
  • Review, benchmark, and develop policies against industry best practices.
  • Ensure appropriate controls and measurement systems are in place for clients to support and maintain sustainability reporting integrity and assurance.
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving sustainability goals and targets.
  • Conduct sustainability training and workshops for clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor and report on sustainability performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Provide guidance on sustainable procurement and supply chain management.
  • Advise clients on the integration of sustainability into business strategies and operations.
  • Develop and implement strategies for achieving netzero carbon emissions.
  • Guide clients on the development and implementation of biodiversity conservation plans.
  • Provide expertise in waste management and reduction strategies.
  • Assist clients in navigating regulatory requirements and sustainability certifications.

Business Development:

  • Develop a business plan for the department with services and selling opportunities.
  • Identify leads, organize, plan, and track proposals.
  • Lead marketing and business development efforts for sustainability services.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with clients and authorities.
  • Track and communicate ESG and sustainability trends and best practices.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and events.
  • Engage with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and community groups to support sustainability initiatives.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Indepth understanding of Environmental, Mining, and Water legislation.
  • Proficient in project management and financial principles.
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, rating agencies, and technical data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel and work under strenuous conditions.
  • Deep understanding of responsible investment, sustainability emerging topics, and the latest energy industry trends, strategies, and technologies.
  • Knowledge of Sustainability/ESG rating agencies, frameworks, and databases.
  • Expert in technical sustainability data, calculation methodologies, and limitations.
  • Establish credibility and effectively interact with clients, including all levels of senior leadership.
  • Selfmotivated, autonomous with a cando attitude.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to build and maintain relationships with senior executives.
  • A flair for writing; you will enjoy transforming information and data into compelling copy and infographics.
  • Strong project management skills: you will be developing sustainability reports from start to finish, working with clients until they are perfect.
