Procurement Manager - Citrus Fruit - Somerset West


A promising career opportunity exists with a dynamic fruit export company in Somerset West as a Procurement Manager in the international sales department.

Our client offers the greatest opportunities to both fruit-growing suppliers and fruit importers. This allows the company to follow the trends and demands of the fruit exporting market closely. They keep daily contact with customers and can respond effectively to the needs and opportunities encountered by important role-players.


This position reports to the Category Manager and is primarily responsible for the procurement of citrus and sales of citrus to certain markets.

Establishing and maintaining relationships with growers from whom the fruit is procured and with customers to whom the fruit is sold, is a key responsibility of this role.

The focus of the position is on maintaining and growing market share, grower retention, and delivering on key metrics. Other key relationships are the company's Commercial, Technical, Finance and Logistics teams.

Qualification

  • Degree in agriculture, marketing, procurement, or business (BCom, BSc Agriculture)

Knowledge and Experience

  • At least five years' experience in procurement and sales with a proven track record of achieving sales targets
  • Sales experience in the fruit export industry is essential
  • International market experience is advantageous
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,Outlook) at an intermediate level

Duties and Responsibilities

Establish and manage strategic relationships_

  • Meet with growers to establish and maintain relationships, specifically with regards to grapes and citrus
  • Negotiate price and payment terms with growers
  • Provide growers with a sale and packing plan
  • Provide growers with general market information such as worldwide trends regarding volumes and pricing for various markets
  • Provide growers with seasonal feedback

Management of procurement chain_

  • During season, obtain weekly crop estimates from growers
  • Continually monitor whether growers are reaching crop estimates given
  • Provide growers with feedback regarding the arrival quality of their products in the market.
  • Manage claims (bad arrivals and credits)
  • Monitor payments to growers
  • Monitor margins to ensure procurement targets are met

  • Ensure that packaging promotes Cape Five brand
  • Develop alliances with retail stores to promote Cape Five brand

Establish and manage strategic relationships
Sales_ Maintain relationships with existing customers and actively establish relationships with new customers Build strategic alliances with new and existing retail chains Regularly visit target markets Develop a deep understanding of customer and market needs and feed this knowledge back to colleagues and growers-
Manage the sales cycle_

  • Devise seasonal sales plan by commodity and variety
  • Negotiate prices and terms with customers, keeping in mind the desired sales margin
  • Select the correct shipping options into each market
  • Provide feedback to customers on shipping programs
  • Negotiate credits on bad arrivals and claim containers
  • Collect payments, based on terms
  • Provide feedback to the company's procurement and technical teams regarding packing and fruit quality to improve future sales
  • Continually identify new and better ways of selling to new and existing customers, considering modes of transport, packaging, product mix
  • Build the company brand through brandbuilding initiatives such as packaging, promotions, etc.
