ProVeg South Africa (PVSA) is the local affiliate office of ProVeg International, a food awareness organisation working to transform the global food system by replacing animal-based products with plant-based and cultivated alternatives.

We work with decision-making bodies, companies, investors, the media, and the general public to help the world transition to a society and economy that are less reliant on animal agriculture and more sustainable for all humans, animals, and our planet.


ProVeg South Africa is seeking an exceptional PR and Fundraising Manager who shares our passion for promoting plant-based food and reducing animal product consumption.

We're looking for a talented and experienced communications professional who's highly motivated, ambitious, and loves taking initiative.

As part of our small and dynamic team, you'll have the opportunity to work independently and make a significant impact.


In this role, you'll be responsible for securing positive media exposure for ProVeg by building strong relationships with the media and creating compelling press releases and opinion pieces related to our mission.

Additionally, you'll be instrumental in developing and executing an effective and efficient fundraising program, helping us to achieve our goals and make a difference in the world.

Salary:
R18k-R25k/month for 40 hours per week, depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

Public Relations (60%):

  • Developing a clear, impactful narrative and key messages, and delivering these across all communications channels.
  • Building relationships with journalists and influencers in the fields of food industry, business, policy, environment, health, and lifestyle.
  • Writing regular, compelling press releases, and pitching these to the media.
  • Writing and securing highlevel placements, such as articles or opeds, in lifestyle, nutrition, environmental protection, business, trade or industry publications.
  • Monitoring the South African media landscape to identify PR opportunities for reactive PR.
  • Maintaining content schedules for all communications platforms.
  • Drafting and implementing crisis management strategies to mitigate negative media, exposure and other similar risks.
  • Mentoring and managing a communications intern.
  • Monthly internal reporting on key communications targets and performance, and ad hoc external reporting to donors, sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • Drafting our annual report.
  • Managing the communications budget.
  • Managing communications volunteers (content creators, photographers, videographers etc.), and growing the communications volunteer network.
  • Overseeing content creation for our social media platforms, monthly Mailchimp newsletter, website and blog.

Fundraising:
(30%)

  • Working with the ProVeg International fundraising teams to develop and fundraising programmes for ProVeg South Africa.
  • Drafts and distributes materials to promote fundraising efforts.
Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and prepare executive presentation materials, including speech writing, slide shows, and charts/graphs, for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Assisting with ad hoc design work (in Canva).

Qualifications:

  • A communications, PR, marketing or branding related qualification and a minimum of two years formal PR experience, writing and pitching press releases and opinion pieces. OR,
  • A minimum of 5 years formal PR experience, writing and pitching press releases and opinion pieces.
  • Excellent, professional language skills written and spoken English, including the ability to write persuasive press releases and articles.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Outgoing and confident personality, with excellent social skills: a team player with the ability to influence, network and build partnerships.
  • Have a strong work ethic and work well independently; a selfstarter with the drive and initiative to take full responsibility for projects.
  • Reliable transport to travel in and around Cape Town.
  • South African ID or valid work permit if not South African.
  • Based in Cape Town and able to travel to our office in Pinelands during the week.

Preferred or beneficial experience:

  • Fundraising experience.
  • NGO Experience
  • Experience with SEO/SEA, Google Analytics, and Adwords.
  • Experience working in fields relating to food, animals, health or the environment.
  • Experience with any of the following software: Google Suite, and professional project management software.
  • Fluency in additional South African Languages.
  • Knowledge of legal procedures relating to government regulations relating to food, animals, health or the environment.
