CLINICAL NURSE PRACTITIONER

Role summary:

Clinical Nurse Practitioner (Primary Health Care) Remuneration:

  • R per annum

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum educational qualifications:

  • Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse (general, psychiatric, community and midwifery)
  • Postbasic qualification with a duration of at least 1year Diploma in

Clinical Nursing Science:
Health Assessment, Treatment and Care accredited with the SANC (i.e. R48 or R212)

  • A postbasic qualification in Nursing Administration or, as current, in Health Service Management, as registered with SANC, will be a recommendation.

Professional Registration:

  • Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse (general, psychiatric, community and midwifery)
  • Registration with the SANC as a clinical nurse practitioner according to R48 or R212

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse (general, psychiatric, community and midwifery)
  • At least 2 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience after obtaining the 1year postbasic qualification in PHC.

Competencies:

  • Make recommendations regarding work methods to improve efficiency in the workplace.
  • An understanding and implementation of
    quality assurance are essential.
  • Conduct complete physicals and counsel patients on health needs and improvements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
  • Prescribe medications and therapy measures.
  • Treat common acute injuries and illnesses.
  • Perform preliminary examinations and assess the patient's condition.
  • Order stock from facilities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Work with Multidisciplinary Team to schedule patient followup visits and arrange for external referrals.
  • Organise and participate in campaigns, clinics, workgroups and activities related to illness prevention and health.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • Strong organisation skills, ability to multitask.
  • Welldeveloped computer skills (word, excel).
  • A comprehensive Curriculum vitae (CV) with contactable referees
