Job Description:

  • Preparation & Review of Financial Reports ensuring that all reports are disseminated timeously and are valid, accurate and complete.
  • Challenges managed and risks escalated timeously to Line Manager.
  • Development, Implementation and communication of financial policies, procedures, guidelines and SOP's and monitoring of adherence thereto.
  • Submission of statutory returns timeously with no penalties.
  • Monthly review of all management reports and working paper files, review of trends, variances and analysis of accounts and questioning allocations where necessary, report back to team with review notes and ensure adequate followup and remedial action.
  • Maintaining Fixed Asset Register/ Compiling and Balancing Fixed Assets.
  • Reconciliation of Fixed Asset Register to General Ledgers monthly.
  • Assistance and Support during Internal, External and Funder Specific Audits.
  • Review daily payments and transfers with supporting documentation, identify compliance issues.
  • Ensuring that daily, weekly & monthly cash flow needs of the organisation are planned and provided for.
  • Ensure that the organisation's assets and risks are adequately insured, coordinating the annual insurance review and ensure that any ad hoc large asset purchases are insured.
  • Working with the Finance Manager to prepare budgets and ensuring that these are circulated timeously to all applicable stakeholders.
  • Assist with audit readiness through review of working paper files before submission to Finance Manager, coordinate and deploy team resources to achieve an efficient and effective audit within allocated budget.
  • An appropriate university degree or diploma and experience as an Accountant, preferably in the NGO environment.
  • Financial data capturing and analysis, accounting, financial report writing, payroll preparation and reporting. Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Intellectual: Analytical thinker who can manage finances and propose solutions to management
  • Organizational/management: Deadline drive individual who can implement financial operational plans and provide organizational support, mentoring, supervision.
  • Technical: Supervisory skills, financial spreadsheets, data analysis, accounting/ payroll packages, knowledge of basic audit processes and internal controls
  • Information technology. High level of computer literacy.
  • Financial: Budgeting and financial management skills
  • Writing and editing skill. Ability to write accurate financial reports.
  • Liaison and networking skill. Ability to liaise with people at all levels, internally and externally, as well as both written and verbal.
