Construction Manager
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced and skilled Construction Manager to join our team in the South African context.
As a Construction Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of construction projects, ensuring successful project delivery within budget, schedule, and quality parameters.
This role requires a strong understanding of the South African construction industry and relevant regulations.Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution:
Develop comprehensive project plans, including construction methodologies, resource allocation, and scheduling. Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to plans, budgets, and timelines.
Budget and Cost Management:
Prepare and monitor project budgets, tracking costs, and implementing cost control measures. Collaborate with project stakeholders to optimize resource utilization and minimize project expenses.
Construction Site Management:
Provide on-site leadership, coordinating and supervising construction activities. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and local building codes.
Contractor and Subcontractor Management:
Select and manage contractors and subcontractors, negotiating contracts, and overseeing their performance. Maintain effective communication and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during construction.
Procurement and Material Management:
Coordinate procurement activities, ensuring timely availability of construction materials and equipment. Monitor material quality and compliance with specifications.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration. Provide regular project updates and address any concerns or queries promptly.
Quality Assurance and Control:
Implement quality control procedures, conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure construction work meets the required standards and specifications.
Project Documentation:
Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and record drawings. Ensure proper filing and documentation management.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and motivate construction teams, providing guidance and mentorship. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, safety, and professional growth.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing proactive measures to address potential issues. Respond to unforeseen circumstances and manage project-related risks effectively.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Additional certifications in project management or construction-related disciplines are advantageous.
South African Construction Knowledge:
Solid understanding of the South African construction industry, regulations, and building codes. Familiarity with local procurement processes and industry standards is essential.
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering construction projects in the South African context.
Experience in managing large-scale commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects is preferred.Leadership Skills:
Strong leadership abilities with the capability to effectively manage construction teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and build relationships.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
Proficient in project budgeting, cost estimation, and cost control techniques. Demonstrated ability to manage project finances and optimize resource allocation.
Construction Site Safety:
Thorough knowledge of construction site safety protocols and regulations. Ability to enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Strong problem-solving abilities to address construction-related challenges and find practical solutions. Proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools, and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of construction-related software and technologies is desirable.
Valid Driver's License:
Possession of a valid driver's license for site visits and project-related travel.
