FINANCIAL CONTROLLER for a high-end, large (over 450 rooms)
5 hotel based in the
Sandton area of Johannesburg,
Gauteng.



Qualifications / Experience
-
Relevant accounting/finance degree (ESSENTIAL):


  • At least 5 years' experience at Financial Controller level, in a hospitality environment (ESSENTIAL):
  • Design of procedures and policies to ensure effective accounting and revenue protection
  • Compilation and reconciliation of balance sheets
  • Strong understanding of forecasting, budget management and reporting
  • Experience in supporting operational departments with all financial aspects of the business
  • Project accounting

Strong IT literacy, particularly MS Excel

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and/or following financial procedures and ensuring compliance by all departments
  • Involved in the setting of department targets and objectives, and to monitor and strive for their achievement
  • All underlying business transactions are accurately recorded in the company's accounting system
  • Responsible for accounting records and resolution of day to day finance/accounting queries (internal & external)
  • Communicate financial results to the General Manager, senior HOD's and Head Office
  • Monitoring and reporting on the budget
  • Carry out audit duties according to company policy, such as accruals, processing of stocktakes, balancing of sales ledgers, reconciling bank statements, petty cash and purchase ledger
  • Prepare monthly reports for the General Manager and Head Office as required with various analyses
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Prepare yearend audit file and liaise with company auditors
  • Completion and submission of PAYE, SDL and UIF payments
  • Monthly salary payments are loaded accurately
  • Be responsible for managing the company's cash cycle
  • Responsible for cash banking and processing credit cards or other payments accurately
  • Key financial controls and procedures operate effectively, particularly in relation to sales, purchasing, food and beverage, stock, cash and capital expenditure
  • Preparation of daily revenue and banking sheets to ensure revenue, cash and statistics are accurate each day. Reporting on this at the daily, morning HOD's meeting
  • Monitor compliance to accounting procedures
  • Analyse business activity and compile required statistics/reports according to company policy
  • Monitor and liaise with Head Office on all cash floats to agreed levels and according to company policy
  • Facilitate stock take process with heads of department

  • Monthly Salary: R50,000
